Prime Video’s upcoming God of War series continues to take shape, with three new cast members officially joining the adaptation from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Alastair Duncan, Jeff Gulka, and Danny Woodburn have all been cast in roles tied closely to the world and characters you know from the games.

The series, based on PlayStation’s long-running action franchise, is currently in pre-production in Vancouver and has already received a two-season order. The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to spread the ashes of Faye, a journey that forces both characters to confront loss, responsibility, and their evolving relationship.

Previously announced cast members include Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Phoebe, and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. The project is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions.

Alastair Duncan Returns as Mimir

Alastair Duncan has been cast as Mimir, a role he previously portrayed in God of War and God of War Ragnarök. His return brings continuity between the games and the series, especially for a character who plays a major role in guiding Kratos and Atreus through their journey.

Mimir is known for his sharp wit, deep knowledge, and complicated history with Odin. Once an advisor to the All-Father, he was later punished and left confined, carrying the weight of past decisions that continue to shape his perspective. In the series, his role is expected to keep that balance of insight, regret, and dry humour.

Duncan’s career spans decades, with appearances in Taggart, The Batman, The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor, and Shadow of War. His familiarity with the character gives the adaptation a strong connection to the source material.

Jeff Gulka Cast as Sindri

Jeff Gulka has joined the series as Sindri, one of the famed dwarven blacksmiths whose work shapes much of the equipment used throughout the story.

Sindri is known for his careful nature, technical precision, and sharp contrast with his brother Brok. While highly skilled, he is also anxious and deeply particular about his surroundings, which often puts him at odds with others. That dynamic has made him one of the more memorable supporting characters in the franchise.

Gulka is best known for his work on The X-Files and Stargate SG-1. His background in science fiction and genre television aligns well with the tone of the series, which balances mythology with grounded character moments.

Danny Woodburn Joins as Brok

Danny Woodburn has been cast as Brok, the blunt and outspoken half of the dwarven duo. In contrast to Sindri’s cautious nature, Brok is direct, irreverent, and unfiltered.

Woodburn’s recent credits include a series regular role in the final seasons of The Witcher and a recurring role on Bookie. His casting suggests the series intends to keep Brok’s rough personality while grounding the character within the show’s broader emotional arc.

In the games, Brok’s relationship with Sindri adds both bite and depth to the story, offering humour alongside heavier themes. That dynamic is expected to carry over into the live-action adaptation.

A Growing Team and a Clear Direction for the Series

The series is being led by Ronald D. Moore, who serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. He is joined by a creative team that includes Cory Barlog, Maril Davis, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, and Asad Qizilbash, all of whom have strong ties to the source material.

Emmy Award winner Frederick E. O. Toye is set to direct the first two episodes. His previous work includes Shōgun, The Boys, and Fallout, bringing experience with character-driven storytelling and large-scale production.

With filming set to take place in Vancouver and casting continuing to come together, the series appears to be taking its time rather than rushing into production. The focus so far has been on building out the world and the people who inhabit it, rather than pushing toward a fast release.

For anyone who’s spent time with the games, this casting just feels right.
