Illumination and Nintendo have shared the first official look at Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, giving fans a new glimpse at one of the franchise’s most reconizable characters ahead of the film’s release this year.

The reveal took place during the Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct presentation, marking the first time Yoshi has been shown in the upcoming animated film. The movie is being produced by Illumination in collaboration with Nintendo and will be released worldwide by Universal Pictures.

Yoshi Makes His First Appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie

While the reveal was brief, it confirms Yoshi’s inclusion in the film’s cast and offers a first look at how the character is being adapted for the Galaxy-era setting. The design closely follows the familiar look fans know from the games, maintaining the character’s bright colour palette and expressive style.

Yoshi’s appearance adds another major Mario character to the growing lineup already confirmed for the movie. It also continues Nintendo’s approach of slowly unveiling elements of the film through official presentations rather than full trailers or extended previews.

Updated Release Dates Confirmed

Alongside the character reveal, Nintendo and Illumination also confirmed updated release timing for the film.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will now release on April 1, 2026 in the United States and several other territories, moving up slightly from its previously announced April 3 date. In Japan, the film is scheduled to arrive on April 24, 2026, with additional regions rolling out across April.

The staggered release mirrors the approach used for previous Nintendo film projects and allows for regional marketing pushes to roll out over several weeks.

The Movie’s Marketing Push Continues to Build

The Yoshi reveal follows a steady stream of activity surrounding the Super Mario Galaxy Movie in recent months. Nintendo and its partners have gradually expanded the film’s presence through merchandise, retail promotions, and controlled announcements rather than a single large marketing push.

That approach has already shown up in several places, from a Bubly tie-in appearing at retail to the Old Spice collaboration, as well as themed cereal products and an upcoming Archie Comics tie-in.

Between branded products, retail sightings, and now character reveals, the strategy appears focused on keeping the movie visible without oversaturating audiences too early. It’s a familiar rollout style for Nintendo, one that builds recognition gradually ahead of release.

More Details Expected Closer to Release

With the movie just a few months away, it’s likely that additional characters, footage, and promotional material will be revealed. For now, Yoshi’s debut offers another small but meaningful look at how the Super Mario Galaxy universe is being brought to the big screen.
