It is hard to believe, but HoYoverse is officially celebrating the third anniversary of Honkai: Star Rail. The developer just announced that Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.2, titled "So Laughed the Masses," will officially launch on April 22.
Alongside a massive list of anniversary rewards, this update pushes the story forward in the Phantasmoon Games and introduces a brand new Path for the Trailblazer.
Becoming the Aeon of Elation
The story gets much more complicated in Version 4.2. It has been announced that the ultimate winner of the Phantasmoon Games will become the permanent Aeon of Elation. Naturally, this puts the Trailblazer directly in the spotlight and draws wariness from every major faction.
To stir the pot, a local media mogul named Fulwish is hosting a televised debate at the Fulwish TV headquarters in Seafeld City. It is an overt scheme filled with traps, forcing you to navigate the hurdles and gather more Wishpower.
Silver Wolf LV.999 and Evanescia Join the Roster
If you are looking to expand your team, Version 4.2 brings two new 5-star companions.
- Silver Wolf LV.999. The ultimate gamer has reached level 999 to become a "Godmode Player". She is a 5-star Imaginary character on the Path of Elation. In combat, she pulls enemies and teammates into a gaming domain where she can spawn items to buff allies.
- Evanescia. This mysterious girl has been an observer of the Phantasmoon Games for a long time. She is a 5-star Physical character following the Path of Elation. She accumulates points called "Certified Banger" to increase her overall damage output.
You'll also unlock the Path of Elation for the Trailblazer. Your new weapon is a glow stick that transforms into a lightblade or nunchucks to attack surrounding enemies. You can even use your Ultimate to cheer for a teammate, letting them immediately use their Elation Skill. It is a flashy move that is sure to feel great whether you are playing on mobile or breaking out the limited edition Genshin Impact DualSense controller.

Anniversary Freebies and Rerun Banners
HoYoverse is handing out a ton of rewards to celebrate three years together. The "Festive Gifts" event is returning, giving you 20 free pulls just for checking in. On April 26, you can select a blessing card to receive a special gift of 1,600 Stellar Jades. You can also use a freely claimed Golden Companion Spirit to pick a companion of your choice from the store.
To celebrate globally, cities like Tokyo, Seoul, and Los Angeles will host a series of online and offline activities, including themed parades, street festivities, and brand collaborations. You can find more details regarding these global celebration events on the official website. There is also an online event called "Aha's Chosen, Spreading Elation Everywhere" where leaving a message gives you a chance to win a Silver Wolf LV.999-themed car.
If you missed out on previous characters, the Warp events are packed with reruns.
- First Half. The Dahlia, Castorice, and Firefly.
- Second Half. Tribbie, Sunday, and Feixiao.
If that was not enough, HoYoverse and MAPPA also revealed a concept trailer for an original animation project called "Death in the Afternoon". Between this, the return to Mondstadt in Version Luna V, and the upcoming Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.7 update, the developer is keeping fans incredibly busy across the universe.
