By Jon Scarr
A new interactive toy tied to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been revealed, giving fans an early look at how one of the film’s most recognizable characters will be represented in the upcoming merchandise lineup. The new Hatchin’ Yoshi toy from Spin Master allows Yoshi to emerge from his own egg through an interactive hatching process, bringing a familiar character moment into physical form.
The reveal comes via an exclusive first look shared by Nerdist, confirming both the toy’s functionality and its planned retail rollout ahead of the movie’s theatrical release.
Hatchin’ Yoshi Brings Interactive Play to the Galaxy Movie Line
The Hatchin’ Yoshi toy recreates the moment Yoshi breaks out of his egg. Instead of being fully visible right away, Yoshi starts sealed inside the egg, and you trigger the hatching by tapping, rocking, and knocking on it.

After a few moments, the egg begins to move on its own. Cracks form across the shell, and Yoshi pops out while greeting you with his familiar voice. Once he’s free, you can keep interacting with him. Touching his head, pressing his shell, or tapping different areas triggers sounds and reactions.
Spin Master used a similar approach with its Primal Hatch dinosaur toys, and this version adapts that same idea to fit Yoshi. It turns the hatching into part of the experience rather than just something shown on the box.

Spin Master Joins the Growing Galaxy Movie Toy Lineup
Spin Master’s involvement adds another major toy partner to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie merchandise rollout. Earlier retail sightings have already confirmed Jakks Pacific figures appearing in Walmart systems, alongside licensed collaborations spanning food, personal care, and publishing.
That includes the Galaxy-themed cereal that appeared at Walmart ahead of any formal announcement, the Old Spice partnership that brought Galaxy Movie branding into personal care products, and the comic release that expanded the campaign into publishing. Nintendo has also reinforced the rollout through its dedicated movie-focused presentation, which offered a closer look at how the film is being positioned.
The addition of Hatchin’ Yoshi shows that interactive toys will play a role alongside traditional figures and playsets, expanding the range of products tied to the film.
Hatchin’ Yoshi Arrives Just Before the Movie Hits Theaters
The Hatchin’ Yoshi toy carries a retail price of $59.99 USD and is scheduled to open for preorder beginning February 15. It will first launch online through Walmart before expanding to physical retail locations and additional major retailers in March.
Its release timing places it squarely within the broader promotional window, allowing the toy to reach store shelves shortly before the film’s debut. That timing mirrors how licensed merchandise typically ramps up in phases, with early reveals followed by staggered retail availability.
As more toys and licensed products continue appearing, the full scope of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie merchandising campaign is becoming easier to see. We’ll continue tracking additional retail sightings, reveals, and announcements as they surface.
