Fortnite, ARC Raiders, Roblox, and Call of Duty anchor this week’s engagement snapshot across console and Steam platforms.
By Jon Scarr
Circana’s latest engagement snapshot, shared by Mat Piscatella, shows what people were actually playing for the week ending January 3, 2026. The data reflects total weekly active users rather than concurrent peaks, covering PlayStation and Xbox activity in the United States alongside Steam engagement across the US, Canada, and Mexico.
This update also closes out Circana’s 2025 tracking year, which makes it a useful checkpoint. While the top of the list hasn't changed much, there are a few shifts underneath that say a lot about how people spent the last stretch of the holidays.

Fortnite stays planted at the top on both PlayStation and Xbox, continuing to soak up console playtime heading into the final week of Circana’s 2025 tracking year.
Fortnite and Call of Duty are still doing what they always do on Xbox and PlayStation, sitting at the top and soaking up most of the time. Call of Duty climbs back into second on PlayStation this week, swapping places with GTA V (Remastered), while the Xbox top four stays completely locked in.
On PlayStation, the biggest change inside the top ten comes from ARC Raiders, which jumps up three spots into eighth. Minecraft also nudges upward, while Battlefield 6 slips just outside the top ten after holding ninth last week.
Xbox looks steadier overall. ARC Raiders holds seventh for another week, continuing its console presence, while Battlefield 6 stays close behind in eighth. Most of the movement happens just outside the top ten, making this one of the calmer console weeks to close out the year.

ARC Raiders holds the top spot on Steam in the US, continuing to lead weekly engagement ahead of Counter-Strike 2 and Battlefield 6.
Steam in the US stays locked at the top this week, with ARC Raiders holding first and Counter-Strike 2 and Battlefield 6 staying right behind it. That top three hasn’t budged.
The changes happen a bit further down. Rocket League climbs back up into sixth after dipping last week, while Path of Exile II slides to tenth following its recent push. Baldur’s Gate III also edges up one spot, keeping itself in the mix even with a crowded chart.
Overall, this feels like a week where momentum mattered more than new game launches. Games that already had people playing stayed in rotation, while a few others cooled off just enough to shuffle positions.

Canada keeps the same game at the top again, with Counter-Strike 2 holding first and ARC Raiders locked in right behind it. Battlefield 6 stays planted at third, continuing to show up consistently across all three Steam regions.
The biggest shift near the top comes from Dota 2, which moves up into fourth after sitting lower last week. Helldivers II also inches upward, while Marvel Rivals slides back a spot but stays comfortably inside the top ten.
Further down the list, Path of Exile II drops a few places after its recent surge, while Baldur’s Gate III hangs on at tenth. The overall picture here feels steady, with most movement happening in small steps rather than big swings.

Counter-Strike 2 continues to lead Steam engagement in Mexico, holding the top spot ahead of ARC Raiders and Marvel Rivals.
Mexico keeps Counter-Strike 2 at the top for another week, with ARC Raiders holding steady in second. Marvel Rivals continues to perform well here, staying locked into third, while Battlefield 6 slides back one spot into fourth.
Helldivers II remains a constant presence in fifth, showing the same staying power it has across the other Steam regions. Peak and Left 4 Dead 2 both hold mid-table positions again, reinforcing how Mexico’s list often blends newer releases with long-time staples.
The lower end of the top ten sees a bit more movement. Overwatch 2 climbs back into ninth, while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 lands at tenth after sitting just outside the list previously. Mexico continues to be the region where small shifts add up quickly, even when the top stays locked in.
The Big Picture This Week
Looking across all the charts this week, the overall shape stays pretty clear. On PlayStation and Xbox, Fortnite and Call of Duty are still doing what they always do, sitting at the top of the lists. The order might shift slightly week to week, but they continue to set the baseline for how people are spending their time on PlayStation and Xbox.
Just below that top tier, games like GTA V (Remastered), Roblox, Minecraft, and NBA 2K26 keep rotating spots rather than disappearing. These are the games that don’t really need a big update or event to stay relevant. They’re easy to jump into, familiar to a wide audience, and they fit naturally into shorter or shared play windows.
On Steam, the story feels more active. ARC Raiders continues to show up everywhere, holding its position at or near the top across all three regions. Counter-Strike 2 remains a constant anchor, especially in Canada and Mexico, while Battlefield 6 keeps a steady presence without quite breaking back into the top spot.
The mid-table movement on Steam tells the most interesting part of the story. Games like Helldivers II, Marvel Rivals, and Path of Exile II keep trading places based on updates, events, or renewed attention. Mexico, in particular, continues to be the region where older favourites and newer releases mix the most from week to week.
Overall, this week feels less about big shakeups and more about momentum. The games that have people’s attention are holding onto it, while a few well-timed updates are enough to pull others back into the conversation. It’ll be interesting to see which of these stick as the new year really gets going.
