Genshin Impact Version 7.0, “Everwinter Without Mercy,” launches on August 12, 2026, and opens Snezhnaya, the seventh nation of Teyvat. The update sends the Traveler into a frozen region connected by rail, where a new Archon Quest follows a catastrophic blizzard, an energy crisis, and growing tension between several factions.

Opening an entirely new nation already makes Version 7.0 much larger than a routine update. A third-person shooter mode tied to the Eye of Graeae is the part I didn’t expect. Odette and Alyosha also join the playable roster, with Alyosha available for free through Archon Quest progression.

Snezhnaya Faces A Catastrophic Energy Crisis

Snezhnaya depends on Kresnik energy for warmth, while trains connect its scattered settlements to Snezhnograd, home of the Fatui headquarters. Beyond the city, the railway crosses frozen fields inhabited by ancient beasts, and Jack Frosts watch over secluded villages.

The new Archon Quest explores how people in Snezhnaya are dealing with the region’s energy crisis and the forces working behind it. Completing the quest awards up to 560 Primogems, while the new Snezhnaya Adventure Journal records progress and provides quicker access to destinations and rewards.

The train system should make exploring the frozen nation feel different from travelling through earlier parts of Teyvat. It also connects directly to several of the new mechanics introduced through the Eye of Graeae.

The Eye Of Graeae Changes Exploration And Combat

The Traveler receives the Eye of Graeae after reaching Snezhnaya. Its Goggles can summon trains and shield the Traveler from the cold, while Prime Ice Constructs support puzzles and multiplayer interactions.

Using the Goggles also unlocks a new third-person shooter mode featuring three firearms. Weapon attachments found throughout Snezhnaya provide additional options during these battles. The shooter mode is a sharp departure from Genshin Impact’s usual combat, and I’m curious to see how naturally firearms fit beside its elemental abilities.

Version 7.0 also adds Stellar Swirl, an elemental reaction created by combining Anemo and Cryo. Triggering the reaction summons a Stellar Vortex that deals both types of damage. Additional triggers increase its level and strengthen its eventual detonation. Stellar Swirl also increases jump height during exploration, while Snezhnaya’s Statues of the Seven grant the Traveler Cryo elemental power.

Odette And Alyosha Join Version 7.0

Odette is a 5-Star Cryo Sword wielder who balances her public life as a ballerina with her work as a Fatui operative under La Signora. Her abilities convert Superconduct and Cryo Swirl into Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl, while her dance double deals continuous Cryo damage and increases the party’s Stellar Glimmer reaction damage.

Alyosha is a 4-Star Electro Polearm wielder accompanied by his canine companion, Tugarin. He strengthens Stellar-Conduct damage and restores HP to nearby party members. Alyosha can be obtained for free by progressing through the new Archon Quest.

Odette and Alyosha will appear alongside Arlecchino during the first Event Wish phase. Flins and Ineffa return during the second phase.

Limited Events Include A Free Diona Invitation

Limited-time events will include train racing, target shooting, Domain challenges, and an activity involving a Jack Frost. Completing the challenges provides an opportunity to invite Diona for free.

Miliastra Wonderland will also host a summer spooky-tale event with an exclusive head accessory among its rewards.

Genshin Impact Version 7.0 launches on August 12 for PlayStation 5, XBOX, PC, Android, and iOS, with cross-progression and co-op available. Alyosha can be earned by progressing through the new Archon Quest.
