| Nintendo and Illumination held The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct on March 9 to mark MAR10 Day 2026. |
By Jon Scarr
Nintendo and Illumination held the final trailer The Super Mario Movie Direct on March 9, and they saved the best reveals for MAR10 Day. Three new voice cast members, the final trailer, and a promotional site that is more creative than most game launches. April 1 cannot get here fast enough.
Donald Glover Is Voicing Yoshi Worldwide
This is the one. Donald Glover voices Yoshi in every language and every territory worldwide, and Nintendo sat on this announcement until MAR10 Day on purpose. Glover was described during the Direct as an incredibly talented actor who also happens to be a Nintendo super fan, and honestly that tracks. Yoshi's voice casting has been one of the most debated questions since the film was first announced. Holding it for MAR10 Day was the right call.
Two More Characters Get Their Voice Actors
Issa Rae voices Honey Queen, the ruler of the Honeyhive Galaxy. Luis Guzmán voices Wart, the boss from Super Mario Bros. 2 who showed up in one of the earlier posters and immediately got everyone talking. Both characters were unconfirmed until today.
The full confirmed cast is now: Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, Luis Guzmán as Wart, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
Mario and Luigi Are in This One Together the Whole Way
The first film kept the brothers apart for most of the story. This one puts them side by side for the entire adventure, which is a meaningful change and one I'm glad they made. It is a galaxy-hopping film and it makes far more sense to have both of them going through it together.
Bowser Jr. and the Nostalgic Characters You'll Want to Spot
Bowser Jr. got some real attention during the Direct. His paintbrush was described as adding a whole new dimension of imagination to the adventure, and there is a clear effort to make him more than just a sidekick threat. Underneath the villain role, he's a kid trying to prove himself, find his dad, and live up to something bigger than him. That is a more interesting angle than I expected.
Shigeru Miyamoto also confirmed that a lot of nostalgic characters make an appearance throughout the film and encouraged everyone to head to the theatre and spot them all. Wart is the one confirmed so far. If Nintendo has been this careful about hiding Donald Glover's casting until today, I would not bet on Wart being the only surprise.
Nintendo Today Has 40 Collectible Cards and Theatre Check-In Extras
Starting March 10, the Nintendo Today app is releasing a daily digital collectible card tied to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There are 40 cards in total, one for each year of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary that has been running since September 2025. You will need a free Nintendo Account to access Nintendo Today. If you check in at the theatre when you go to see the film, the app also unlocks digital wallpapers and photo frames tied to the movie.
Nintendo Turned the Gateway Galaxy Site Into a Full Intergalactic Airport
Nintendo and Illumination launched a dedicated promotional site alongside the Direct. Canadian fans can visit gatewaygalaxy.ca and U.S. fans can head to gatewaygalaxy.com. The site is styled as an intergalactic airport, and they went all in on it. Destinations include the Mushroom Kingdom, Honeyhive Galaxy, Fossil Falls, and the Comet Observatory.
R.O.B. serves as your guide through the whole thing. There are wallpaper downloads, a Lost and Found stocked with items like a Super Mushroom and a green turtle shell, boarding times listed for each destination, and a text number you can message to receive updates from Gateway Galaxy directly. It's genuinely one of the better film promotional sites I've seen in a long time.
