HBO just locked in two of the most important roles for the next chapter of The Last of Us. Michelle Mao and Kyriana Kratter are officially joining the cast for Season 3, taking on the roles of the Seraphite siblings, Yara and Lev.

If you played the second game, you know these two are the core of Abby’s story. Michelle Mao, who I recently watched in Goosebumps, is playing the protective older sister Yara. Kyriana Kratter is taking on the role of Lev. Kratter just finished a huge run as KB in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, so it’s great to see her jumping into another massive franchise.

Seraphite Storyline and Production Updates

Seeing these two cast makes it clear that the Seraphite (Scar) storyline is going to be a massive focus this season. This news comes right after the recent update where Manny was recast for Season 3. It feels like the production team is really narrowing in on the WLF and Seraphite conflict that made the sequel so intense.

Filming is currently moving forward in Vancouver under the working title Calm Current. Importantly, Neil Druckmann has stepped back from his showrunning duties to focus on Naughty Dog’s upcoming sci-fi game. This leaves Craig Mazin to lead the creative direction as we head toward a 2027 release.

Seraphite Siblings and Abby’s Journey

I’m personally excited to see how they bring the Seraphite island to life. It’s one of the most moody and tense locations in the entire series, and the chemistry between Lev, Yara, and Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) needs to be perfect for the story to land. While we’re still a long way from a trailer, these casting picks feel like a strong step in the right direction.
