HBO’s The Last of Us is heading into its third season with a notable cast change. Manny, a supporting character introduced during Season 2, will be recast for Season 3, as Danny Ramirez will not be returning due to scheduling conflicts.

The news was first reported by Variety, with HBO confirming that the role will be played by a different actor moving forward. At this time, no replacement has been announced.

Manny is expected to remain part of Season 3

Manny was introduced as a supporting character in the show’s second season and is expected to remain part of the series going into Season 3. While details about his role in the upcoming season have not been shared, the decision to recast rather than remove the character suggests he will continue to appear as the story progresses.

HBO has not indicated that the character’s direction or importance is changing, only that a new actor will step into the role.

Danny Ramirez’s growing film commitments

Outside of The Last of Us, Danny Ramirez has become increasingly involved in major film projects. He plays Joaquin Torres, also known as Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with appearances in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World. He is also set to return in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Those commitments are cited as the reason he will not be available to continue with the HBO series.

Another shift behind the scenes

This casting update follows a previously announced creative change for the series. Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the original video game and a key creative figure on the TV adaptation, stepped away from his active creative roles on the show after Season 2.

Druckmann has since returned his focus to game development at Naughty Dog, where he is involved in upcoming projects outside of the TV series.

What’s next for The Last of Us

Season 3 of The Last of Us is currently expected to debut in 2027. Beyond the Manny recast, HBO has not shared additional casting updates or production details.

More information, including who will take over the role, is expected to be revealed as the new season moves further into development.
