HoYoverse has announced that Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.5, called To Be Fuel for the Night, launches on December 30. The update closes out Season 2 and brings new story content, new agents, multiplayer additions, and rewards for all Proxies, including a free S-Rank Agent, Zhao.

Version 2.5 pushes the story into the season’s final chapter while also rolling out a long list of gameplay and quality-of-life changes. HoYoverse is also marking the new year with extra rewards, including 1,000 Polychromes and a new outfit for Jane.

Season 2 Heads Into Its Final Chapter

The main story in Version 2.5 centres on the rising crisis connected to Waifei Peninsula. One of the biggest announcements from this update is Ye Shunguang, the game’s first dual-form Void Hunter. Ye Shunguang uses the Honed Edge attribute. She can enter an Enlightened Mind state and activate Ether Veil, dealing Honed Edge damage while applying a vulnerability effect to enemies.

The update also ties story events to the Qingming Sword and the spread of the Lemnian Hollow. Mysterious white flowers, once seen only in Hollows, have started appearing across Failume Heights, signalling the expansion of the Lemnian Hollow. Proxies will head into the Lumite Mine ruins, using a new Perception Technique and working with allies to uncover what’s happening deeper inside the Hollow.

After the main chapter, Version 2.5 continues with the epilogue Sword Seeker Chronicles, where Proxies help Ye Shunguang search for a remedy connected to the Qingming Sword’s backlash. The investigation highlights Ye Shunguang’s Bladeflash Mirage ability and offers exclusive rewards, including a new W-Engine.

New Agents and Multiplayer Updates

Version 2.5 adds Zhao, described as an S-Rank Ice Defence Agent. Zhao moves quickly across the battlefield and uses her weapon to suppress enemies. By building Frostbite, she can trigger Ether Veil: Wellspring, which provides buffs for the whole squad.

HoYoverse is also giving a set of rewards to all Proxies with Version 2.5, including a free S-Rank Agent Zhao, 1,000 Polychromes, and a new outfit for Jane, alongside additional rewards.

Multiplayer combat arrives through the limited-time event Joint Investigation: The Divine Maze, where three-member squads take on cooperative challenges. Outside combat, the update adds Proxy Outpost, letting Proxies create or join outposts, post or accept commissions, and take part in discussions.

Quality-of-Life Changes and Combat Tweaks

Version 2.5 also includes optimizations focused on combat and progression. Several existing agents are getting updates and performance boosts, including Soldier 11, Grace, Soldier 0 – Anby, Ellen, and Burnice, with more Stable Channel agents planned for future enhancements.

Other updates include changes to Shiyu Defence and Deadly Assault. A new sweep function for Combat Simulation stages also lets you use Ether Batteries to instantly collect promotion materials and Drive Discs, which should make routine farming easier to manage.

December 30 Is the Big Date

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.5: To Be Fuel for the Night launches on December 30. Between the Season 2 finale, Ye Shunguang’s arrival, and Zhao being handed out as a free S-Rank agent, there’s a lot packed into this update. If you’ve been following along since earlier versions, this one feels like a natural pause point, tying off loose ends before the game shifts gears again.
