The first teaser trailer for the new live-action Street Fighter film has been released, giving audiences an early look at how Capcom’s iconic fighting game is being brought to the big screen. The footage debuted during The Game Awards 2025, where members of the cast appeared on stage to introduce the project.

Rather than diving deep into story details, the teaser focuses on tone and spectacle. It shows familiar fighters stepping into live action for the first time, setting expectations for a theatrical adaptation that leans heavily into physical combat and recognizable characters. The reveal positions the film as a major tentpole project rather than a low-key reboot.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.

A 1993 Setting and the World Warrior Tournament

According to the official synopsis, the Street Fighter film is set in 1993 and centers on estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, played by Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo. The two are pulled back into combat when Chun-Li, portrayed by Callina Liang, recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament.

What begins as a brutal global competition soon reveals a darker conspiracy behind the scenes. The fighters are forced to confront not only each other, but unresolved elements from their past. The setup mirrors the classic conflict fans know from the games while framing it in a standalone cinematic story.

An Ensemble Cast Pulled From Across Entertainment

One of the most talked-about aspects of the reveal is the film’s unusually large and eclectic cast. Alongside Koji, Centineo, and Liang, the lineup includes Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, 50 Cent as Balrog, and David Dastmalchian as M. Bison.

The cast also features Orville Peck as Vega, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, and Roman Reigns as Akuma. Supporting roles include Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe.

The teaser itself is brief, but it highlights the physicality of the performers and leans into practical combat over dialogue. It offers a rapid-fire introduction to the cast rather than spotlighting any single character.

Creative Team and Theatrical Release Plans

The Street Fighter film is directed by Kitao Sakurai from a screenplay by Dalan Musson. The project is co-produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom, with Paramount Pictures handling distribution.

The teaser confirms that this adaptation is designed as a theatrical release, not a streaming-first project. With its scale, cast, and release window, Street Fighter is clearly being positioned as a major event film tied closely to its gaming roots.

Street Fighter is set to release in theaters on October 16, 2026.
