Star Wars fans finally have something new to rally around. Arcanaut Studios has announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic during The Game Awards 2025, revealing a teaser trailer that immediately caught the attention of longtime RPG fans. As someone who played the older games when they were new, I felt that familiar spark the moment Casey Hudson’s name appeared on screen.
The game is being created in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It is a narrative-driven single-player action RPG that places you in the role of a Force user exploring a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. Even without gameplay details, the idea of a brand new story set in the Old Republic era feels exciting and opens up a lot of room for meaningful choices.
Casey Hudson Returns to the Old Republic Era
The project is led by Casey Hudson, known for directing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy. That experience carries weight and adds credibility to this announcement. Hudson said that working on Knights of the Old Republic shaped his career. He explained that Fate of the Old Republic will tell a completely different story using everything he and the team have learned since.
He mentioned themes of destiny, choice and the struggle between light and dark. Hearing him talk about it reminded me why this era still means so much to many fans.
Disney and Lucasfilm Express Confidence in Arcanaut Studios
Jay Ong, President of Disney Games Group, said they look for partners with the drive to build something ambitious. He believes Hudson and Arcanaut Studios are assembling a team that cares deeply about storytelling and world building. It is always encouraging when leadership openly supports a project at this stage.
Lucasfilm Games also shared enthusiasm for returning to this era. Douglas Reilly said the Old Republic is a rich part of the Star Wars timeline and that Arcanaut’s vision is inspiring. He believes fans will enjoy the journey ahead, and it feels like everyone involved understands how passionate the community is about this period.
