January is usually a slower month for streaming, but Paramount+ Canada isn’t holding back in 2026. This month leans hard into new originals, returning favourites, and a movie lineup that actually gives you reasons to keep checking back week to week.

Between a brand-new Star Trek series, a reality show built around Canadian drama, and the return of School Spirits, January stands out as a more focused month for the service.

Here’s everything coming to Paramount+ Canada this month, plus what I'm keeping an eye on.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Arrives January 15

If you’ve been waiting for Paramount+ to expand Star Trek beyond nostalgia, this is the big one. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres on Thursday, January 15 with a two-episode launch, then continues with new episodes streaming Thursdays. It introduces a new generation of cadets navigating ambition, friendships, rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation.

With Holly Hunter leading the cast and a weekly schedule that keeps the conversation going, this is clearly being positioned as Paramount+’s headline series for January.

Canada Shore Brings Reality TV North on January 22

Canada Shore premieres Thursday, January 22 with a two-episode drop, followed by new episodes streaming Thursdays.

The pitch is simple. A northern “Shore.” Ten Canadians. Unlimited drama. Filmed last summer on the shores of Kelowna, British Columbia, the series brings together a group of bold singles for a whirlwind season of flirting, friendships, blowups, and nights that probably won’t end quietly.

If you’re into reality shows as comfort background viewing, or you just like watching a cast implode in a scenic location, this one feels designed to become a weekly check-in.

Meet the Canada Shore Cast

From what’s been shared about the cast, this group already sounds like it’s going to bring plenty of personality into the house.

  • Bauer (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan | Toronto) – “You win some, you lose most.”
  • Christopher (Toronto) – Party nickname: “Tequila Turner.”
  • Emmett (Peterborough, ON | Vancouver, BC) – “Know your limit, play within it.”
  • Emmy (Moncton, NB | Fredericton, NB) – “One day at a time.”
  • Ethan (Newmarket, ON | Toronto) – “Only way out is in.”
  • Gizelle (Montego Bay, Jamaica | Mississauga) – “Kill ’em with kindness.”
  • Isaiah (Calgary) – Can’t live without: weed, skateboarding, music.
  • Keyaira (Halifax, NS) – “Making chaos look cute.”
  • Lila (Toronto) – Motto: “Shot O’Clock.”
  • Ryleigh (Bridgewater, NS) – “Years, lovers, and shots are not to be counted.”

School Spirits Season 3 Drops January 28

School Spirits returns Wednesday, January 28 with a three-episode launch, followed by new episodes streaming Wednesdays.

This season digs deeper into Split River High’s mysteries as the veil between worlds thins. Maddie Nears is fighting to save Simon, who’s trapped in the afterlife after being pulled into the vortex, while the story pushes further into what’s really been happening at the school.

If you’ve been keeping up, this month is a nice bonus because you’re not just getting one episode back. You’re getting enough to fall right back into the show’s weird vibe immediately.

New Series You Can Binge Right Away

Paramount+ has a couple of major binge-style drops this month, which is nice if you’d rather watch at your own pace instead of waiting week to week.

  • Girl Taken (Series premiere Thursday, January 8) – Binge drop
  • Red Eye Season 2 (Premiere Friday, January 9) – Binge drop

Girl Taken is based on the novel Baby Doll by Hollie Overton and follows twin sisters Lily and Abby after Lily is abducted from their rural English town. Years later, Lily escapes, but the damage doesn’t stop just because she’s free.

Red Eye Season 2 continues as DS Hana Li teams up with a former colleague to unravel a conspiracy after a murder at the US Embassy triggers a lockdown. It also connects to a linked plot threatening a British government plane mid-flight, which is exactly the kind of high-stakes thriller setup that makes for an easy binge.

Landman Season 2 Continues with Weekly Episodes

Landman Season 2 is also running through January with new episodes streaming Sundays, giving Paramount+ another weekly anchor alongside Starfleet Academy and Canada Shore.

Why Paramount+ January 2026 Feels Like a Real Reset

Rather than dropping everything at once, Paramount+ is spacing January out in a way that keeps the service feeling active throughout the month. Early binge releases ease you into January, while weekly episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Canada Shore, and School Spirits give the lineup a clear structure from week to week.

Personally, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is the show I’m most curious about. I like when Star Trek focuses on character growth and long-term storytelling instead of relying on legacy callbacks, and the Academy setting feels like it has room to develop if the series takes its time. School Spirits returning with multiple episodes right away is also a plus, especially after how much ground the previous season covered.

Canada Shore is a different kind of watch, but that’s part of the appeal. It knows exactly what kind of show it is, and I’m interested to see how a Canadian take on the format holds up once the season gets going.

It’s a more deliberate approach than a typical content dump, and it works.
