When a big game is announced, we usually hear about the main studios making it. What we don't always hear about are the other developers helping make that game happen. And sometimes, those developers are right here in Canada.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is one example. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are the game's main developers, but a Canadian studio is helping with the Nintendo Switch 2 port. The Canada at gamescom 2026 directory names Eden Industries, based in Surrey, British Columbia, as the studio working on that port.
Flying Wild Hog confirmed during gamescom that an outside studio was working on the Nintendo Switch 2 version, but didn't say who it was. Eden's exact responsibilities haven't been made public, but the studio is no stranger to major games. It's previously worked on Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat 1, and Fortnite.
Eden Industries Named as Nintendo Switch 2 Development Partner
During gamescom in August, Flying Wild Hog art director Arek Tomaszewski told Nintendo-Online that an external partner was handling the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The studio was working closely with the main development team to preserve the experience across platforms.
Flying Wild Hog also discussed the version with Pocket Tactics. Development was progressing well, although the team acknowledged the challenges of adapting a demanding Unreal Engine 5 game for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Neither interview identified the external partner.
Eden specializes in porting and optimization, although the exact technical work it's handling on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis hasn't been disclosed.
Eden's Experience With Major Nintendo Switch Games
Eden Industries has worked on some demanding Nintendo Switch releases. Its involvement with Hogwarts Legacy included improving the game's rendering system, optimizing shaders, and addressing performance issues involving terrain, physics, textures, and audio.
The company also contributed to Mortal Kombat 1 on Nintendo Switch. That work went beyond graphical improvements. Eden developed platform-specific networking code, made rendering adjustments, and optimized effects and the user interface.
Its experience with Fortnite brought another set of technical challenges. Eden worked on Unreal Engine 5 optimization, investigated memory spikes, and examined new game content for performance issues. The team also contributed improvements intended to benefit other Unreal Engine 5 projects.
These projects give us a better understanding of Eden's technical background. The studio has experience working with games that need substantial engineering attention to run on Nintendo hardware.
What We Know About Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on Nintendo Switch 2
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reimagines Lara Croft's original 1996 adventure. Players will explore locations across Peru, Greece, and Egypt while searching for the pieces of the Scion. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are rebuilding familiar environments, puzzles, and combat using Unreal Engine 5.
Flying Wild Hog has acknowledged that the Nintendo Switch 2 version requires a different technical approach from the other platforms. However, specific performance targets, including resolution and frame rate, haven't been announced.
Nintendo released a trailer featuring the Nintendo Switch 2 version on September 9, giving fans an early look at Lara Croft's adventure on the console.
Eden's exact responsibilities haven't been announced, but the Surrey studio's involvement is another Canadian connection to a major game. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches February 12, 2027.
