The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) will hold its annual Video Games on the Hill reception in Ottawa on September 22. This year’s event will take place at the Fairmont Château Laurier, with registration required to attend.
In a LinkedIn post announcing the event, ESAC President and CEO Paul Fogolin said the reception will bring together video game companies, developers, industry leaders, parliamentarians, policymakers, and other stakeholders. The evening will focus on the industry’s contribution to Canada and conversations about its future.
Canada’s Video Game Industry Meets in Ottawa
Video Games on the Hill brings Canada’s game industry together with parliamentarians, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Fogolin wrote that the reception is a chance to connect with colleagues and discuss the sector’s future in Canada. He said those conversations will cover building, investing in, publishing, and distributing video games in the country.
ESAC represents major console makers, publishers, independent developers, and national distributors. The association says it works on behalf of its member companies to support Canada as a place to innovate, create, and publish video games.
Video Games on the Hill Has Brought Industry and Government Together for Years
ESAC’s 2024 annual report looks back at the 2023 edition of Video Games on the Hill. That event combined advocacy meetings with elected officials and staff with a showcase of games from ESAC members.
The association reported that more than 200 people attended the showcase, including multiple Members of Parliament.
Those meetings focused on Online Harms legislation and safety on digital platforms. ESAC says the Minister of Heritage, parliamentary secretaries, and senior government staff took part in the discussions.
The 2026 announcement only confirms the reception at the Fairmont Château Laurier. It doesn’t say that the advocacy meetings or game showcase from the 2023 event are returning this year.
Fogolin’s post specifically invites people working in or around Canada’s video game industry. He also points to those involved in policy, investment, or economic development conversations affecting the sector.
Video Games on the Hill takes place September 22 at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa. Registration is required through Eventbrite.
