PlayStation has launched Live TV on PS5 in Canada, bringing a free, ad-supported service with close to 100 channels to PS5. The service is available now through the console’s Media section, with movies, TV, anime, sports, news and more included at launch.
We covered the U.S. launch at the end of August when PlayStation said it was exploring a Canadian expansion. Less than a month later, that rollout is already here. Canada gets its own programming mix, with more channels expected to arrive over the coming weeks.
Live TV on PS5 Is Now Available in Canada
Live TV on PS5 comes from Sony Pictures Television and combines live channels with on-demand entertainment. There’s no paid subscription or separate download required, so everything starts directly from the PS5 Media tab.
The Canadian service launches with close to 100 channels. The lineup will continue to change over time, with refreshed programming and additional channels added after launch.
That quick Canadian turnaround stands out to me. When we wrote about the U.S. launch on August 31, Canada was still something PlayStation was considering. Now we have the launch, the first local programming details, and a much clearer idea of what Canadian PS5 owners can expect.
Canada Gets Sports, Anime, Movies and More
The Canadian lineup includes NFL Channel, NHL Channel, UFC, NASCAR and PGA Tour, covering football, hockey, MMA, motorsports and golf.
Anime includes NARUTO, Death Note and Hunter x Hunter, along with Crunchyroll channels including Black Clover and Box Sets.
The TV and movie side includes programming such as Community, The Walking Dead and Hell’s Kitchen. Movie channels include MovieSphere by Lionsgate and Sony One Action Hits.
There’s also creator and specialty programming, including Hot Ones, The Ringer, gaming, esports, documentaries and other niche channels. News and weather are part of the mix as well.
How to Watch Live TV on PS5 in Canada
Getting started is straightforward. From the PS5 home screen, open the Media tab, select Live TV on PS5, then choose Log In With My PlayStation Account.
Live TV on PS5 also requires a Sony Pictures CORE account. You can link an existing account or create one while connecting your PlayStation account. An adult PlayStation account in an eligible territory is required to watch. Both the DualSense wireless controller and PS5 Media Remote can be used for playback.
Programming can vary by local TV market and change over time, so the Canadian lineup we have today won’t necessarily stay fixed. With more channels already expected over the coming weeks, I’ll be watching to see what PlayStation adds next.
