Grand Theft Auto VI ranks first among Canada’s trending video game searches heading into National Video Games Day on September 12, according to Google Trends data shared with 4ScarrsGaming.

But GTA VI isn’t the only thing we’re searching for here in Canada. The data also includes searches for affordable gaming gear, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 game recommendations, games similar to favourites such as Animal Crossing and Resident Evil, and practical questions ranging from lowering ping to Steam refunds.

GTA VI Ranks First Among Canada’s Trending Game Searches

GTA VI sits at the top of the list. Wardogs, Star Wars: Zero Company and Stage Tour follow, while Fable, Marvel’s Wolverine, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Pokémon also rank among the leading trending games and franchises in the data.

That matters because Google Trends tells us what we’re searching for, not what we’re buying or playing the most.

Game, Gear and Recommendation Searches Stand Out

The data also gives us a good look at what we’re searching for when it comes to games and gaming gear. Among the leading “best” searches are best budget gaming chairs, best cheap gaming laptops, best indie games, best Switch 2 games and best PS5 games.

Price is part of what we’re looking at too. Two of those searches specifically focus on budget or cheap hardware, while the game-related searches cover indie games and two major console platforms.

We’re also searching for games similar to ones we already enjoy. The list includes Tomodachi Life, Raid: Shadow Legends, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil, Ready or Not, Blue Prince, Dispatch, Papers, Please!, The Sims and Roblox.

The how-to searches get even more practical. We’re looking up how to lower ping in games, how to choose a gaming monitor and how to get a refund for a game on Steam.

So this isn’t just about which games are getting attention. We’re also looking for what to play next, what gear fits our budget and how to solve everyday gaming problems.

Platform Searches Mix Games, Prices and Troubleshooting

The platform-specific Google Trends data narrows the period to the last month, and the results vary quite a bit by platform.

PS5-related searches include Call of Duty Black Ops 1 & II, Meccha Chameleon, Crimson Desert, Resident Evil Requiem, Forza Horizon 6 and Saros, along with PS5 prices.

XBOX searches mix games with broader platform topics. Forza Horizon 6, Subnautica 2 and GTA VI appear alongside XBOX outages, layoffs, XBOX Series S pricing and XBOX Play Anywhere.

Nintendo Switch 2 searches include Pokémon Pokopia, Star Fox, Ocarina of Time Remake and Switch 2 digital pricing.

PC searches include Steam Machine, RTX 5090, prebuilt gaming PCs and whether GTA VI is coming to PC.

GTA VI is the clear headline here, but it isn’t the whole story. Heading into National Video Games Day, we’re also searching for game recommendations, budget-friendly gear, platform pricing and answers to everyday gaming questions.
