I've reviewed so many head straps since I started VR. Honestly, it's gotten hard to find anything that beats my current setup. But AMVR did it. Their BS1 Battery Head Strap for Quest 3 and 3S went beyond my expectations. It's not perfect though, so stick with me and get everything you need to know in three minutes. Let's do it!
Unboxing Is Dead Simple
The unboxing is dead simple. You get the head strap with the back pad already installed. The only pieces you need to add are the top head knobs, and that takes seconds. And of course, you get the battery. More on that in a bit.
The Fan Cools The Top Pad
There's just one button wheel to control the fan. Scroll up for higher speed, down for less, then press and hold to turn it off.
Heads up. When you snap the battery in, it defaults to top fan speed, and it's loud. Doesn't bother me personally, but fair warning.
Also, for anyone new to head strap fans, they're not blowing air on your head. They're mainly there to cool the top pad, since that area heats up fast. It won't stop you from sweating.
Speaking of which, that spongy silicone pad material is my one real nitpick. I sweat a lot in VR since I work out in it, so I'm partial to leather pads. After a workout session, this thing is soaked, and I have to towel it off and clean it more often than I'd like.
Comfort Passes My Biggest Head Strap Test
I've gotten really picky about head straps at this point. My first "seal of approval" test is whether it fits my facial interface. I use a very thick one for airflow while I play.
Not every head strap accommodates it, so I was genuinely happy this one did, especially since it's a halo strap. Honestly, this is the first halo strap I've been able to fit it with.
Comfort-wise? Great. Even better than my main strap.
The back pad flexes nicely, and the moment I tightened it up, I felt way less pressure on my face right away, without it ever feeling loose or shifting during fast movement.
After a few sessions, the top knobs started digging in a bit, but loosening them slightly fixed that completely.
The Battery Actually Keeps My Quest Charged
Now, the battery. My main head strap, for some reason, just can't keep my Quest charged. It still loses charge, just slower.
I've tried it across three Quests and three different straps from the same brand with no luck, even though other VR users don't seem to have this problem. So I'm happy to report the BS1's battery actually keeps my Quest fully charged. That alone makes me happy.
After testing it out, expect around two to three hours of battery life with the fan on full blast before it starts pulling from the Quest's battery. That's a solid, standard amount of time.
The USB-C Port Placement Is Annoying
My main complaint is that the USB-C port gets blocked by the head strap itself, so you can't charge the battery while it's mounted.
You have to remove it to charge, which is annoying since I like charging my facial interface fan and the battery at the same time. That's not possible here, especially with limited cables on my desk.
I'll probably just end up buying a second battery so one charges while the other's in use. Feels like I'm being pushed into that.
AMVR BS1 Battery Head Strap Is My Main Strap For Now
But despite these small gripes, I'm loving the AMVR BS1 Battery Head Strap. True to the name, it's genuinely comfortable, even on long sessions.
It's my main strap for now, and I'll see how it holds up long-term, but so far it's looking really promising.
Recommended.
