Umbrella Entertainment has opened pre-orders for two new Steelbook editions of the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. movie. Both arrive December 2, 2026, with a standalone Steelbook starting at AUD $80 and a larger Collector’s Steelbook listed at AUD $100.
If you bought Umbrella’s 4K release a few years ago, there’s an important difference to know right away. Umbrella isn’t advertising a new restoration this time. The company already restored Super Mario Bros. from the original camera negative for its 2024 release. The big change for 2026 is the Steelbook and the new collector packaging around it.
Super Mario Bros. Gets a New Steelbook in December
The new Steelbook uses the movie’s “This Ain’t No Game” artwork, with Mario and Luigi standing inside a large metallic M. You can buy that version on its own or move up to the Collector’s Steelbook.
The Collector’s Steelbook adds an over 480-page book filled with production material, interviews, and artwork. It also comes with a classic-artwork rigid outer slipcase, another slipcase, and individually numbered packaging.
Umbrella calls this a three-disc release. The first disc contains the movie in 4K, the second has the Blu-ray version, and the third is dedicated to extras.
There is one strange detail on Umbrella’s product page. The technical specifications say there are two discs, even though the same page clearly lists Disc 1, Disc 2, and Disc 3. Based on Umbrella’s own breakdown, the release is being sold and described as a three-disc set.
The 2026 Steelbook Builds on Umbrella’s 2024 4K Release
This isn’t Umbrella’s first big physical release for Super Mario Bros.. Its original 4K restoration arrived in February 2024, and there were several versions for collectors.
The regular 2024 Collector’s Edition came with an over 250-page hardback book, two slipcases, eight replica lobby cards, an A3 reversible poster, and numbered packaging. The new 2026 Collector’s Steelbook doesn’t list the lobby cards or poster, but it increases the book to more than 480 pages and adds the Steelbook.
Umbrella also went much bigger with its Trust the Fungus Collector’s Edition in 2024. That version already had a 480-page book along with a separate 200-plus-page script book. It also included a film cell, replica 1993 souvenir magazine, lobby cards, two reversible posters, and stickers.
So, if you already own one of those 2024 editions, this isn’t a completely new version of the movie. The Steelbook is the main addition. The new Collector’s Steelbook also changes the physical package, but some of the older collectibles are no longer listed.
There’s one thing Umbrella doesn’t explain. The company doesn’t say whether the new 480-plus-page book has been changed or expanded from the 480-page book included with Trust the Fungus. I wouldn’t assume they’re the same book or that the new one contains completely different material.
Most of the Disc Extras Return From 2024
Umbrella is still packing a lot onto the discs. Both movie discs include four commentary tracks, restored deleted scenes, and restored versions of the Ain’t No Game and I’ve Got the Power trailers.
The third disc is where most of the extra material lives. It includes the restored HD workprint, Storyboard to Screen animatics, four academic featurettes, Japanese trailers, commercials, music videos, making-of material, the original electronic press kit, and galleries with stills, storyboards, and concept art.
If that list sounds familiar, it should. Most of those extras were already included with Umbrella’s 2024 releases. The new Steelbook isn’t suddenly adding a completely different bonus package.
For anyone who missed the 2024 editions, though, this is another chance to get Umbrella’s extensive Super Mario Bros. release in a much different package. And if you already have one sitting on the shelf, the decision really comes down to how much you want that new Steelbook and collector presentation.
The Super Mario Bros. Steelbook and Collector’s Steelbook are scheduled for December 2, 2026, with pre-orders available through Umbrella Entertainment.
