In its latest financial results, Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 reached 23.68 million hardware sales worldwide as of June 30, 2026. The company sold another 3.82 million systems between April and June, raising the console’s lifetime total from 19.86 million at the end of the previous quarter.

Nintendo Switch 2 software sales also climbed to 58.17 million units after 9.46 million were sold during the quarter. Just over a year after launch, the console is tracking ahead of the early sales pace reported for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 Added 3.82 Million Units During The Quarter

Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales declined 34.4% compared with the same quarter last year. The system sold 5.82 million units during its launch quarter.

That is a steep year-over-year drop on paper, but the comparison needs context. Nintendo Switch 2 was only available for the final 26 days of the earlier quarter. The latest result covers a full three-month quarter rather than a 26-day launch window.

The 3.82 million systems sold during the quarter raised the lifetime total from 19.86 million on March 31 to 23.68 million on June 30.

Nintendo uses sell-in figures for its hardware totals. These figures cover systems sold to retail partners and units purchased directly through Nintendo’s own stores.

Nintendo Switch added another 660,000 units during the quarter. It now sits at 156.59 million lifetime hardware sales.

Nintendo Switch remains within reach of PlayStation 2’s lifetime record. Nintendo Switch 2, however, is building its installed base much faster than either system did during its opening 13 months.

Early Sales Outpace Other Major Console Launches

Nintendo Switch 2 reached 23.68 million units 390 days after its June 5, 2025 launch. That places it ahead of several major consoles at a similar point after release.

Nintendo Switch reached 17.79 million units by March 31, 2018. That reporting date came 393 days after launch.

PlayStation 5 had shipped 17.3 million units by December 31, 2021. That was about 13 and a half months after its November 2020 debut.

PlayStation 4 reached 18.5 million estimated sell-through units by January 4, 2015. It reached that total about 13 and a half months after its first regional launch.

PlayStation 2 had reached 10.6 million cumulative production shipments by March 31, 2001. That date came almost 13 months after the console launched in Japan.

The PlayStation 2 comparison needs additional context because Sony released the console region by region. North America did not receive it until October 2000, followed by Europe in November.

PlayStation 2 later sold more than 160 million systems worldwide. It remains the lifetime benchmark Nintendo Switch is pursuing.

These figures do not create a perfect all-time ranking. Nintendo reports sell-in for Nintendo Switch 2, while Sony used estimated sell-through for the early PlayStation 4 milestone. PlayStation 2 also launched under different production and regional conditions.

Even with those differences, Nintendo Switch 2’s opening sales pace is ahead of these major console launches.

Mario Kart World Leads Nintendo Switch 2 Software Sales

Nintendo Switch 2 software sales reached 9.46 million units during the quarter. That raised the system’s lifetime total to 58.17 million.

Nintendo’s totals include packaged and downloadable versions. They also include software bundled with hardware or other products.

Mario Kart World remains far ahead at 15.39 million copies. Donkey Kong Bananza follows at 4.78 million.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition has reached 3.99 million copies. Pokémon Pokopia sits close behind at 3.68 million.

Kirby Air Riders has sold 1.90 million copies. Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition has reached 1.15 million.

Mario Kart World still represents a large share of Nintendo Switch 2’s early software sales. Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and Pokémon Pokopia have each sold more than 3.5 million copies.

Nintendo Switch 2 has now passed 23 million systems and 58 million software sales in just over a year. It will enter its second holiday season with an installed base of 23.68 million systems.
