Mattel has announced a full-size buildable version of the original XBOX console for the platform’s 25th anniversary. The Mattel Brick Shop set contains 3,509 pieces and recreates the console and Duke controller at 1:1 scale.

The build also has a lot going on inside. Halo: Combat Evolved, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and Psychonauts each have removable dioramas inside the console. The familiar XBOX startup sequence plays when you open the finished console. Pressing buttons on the Duke also triggers light and sound effects. Mattel Canada lists the set at $449.99 CAD.

The 3,509-Piece Set Recreates The Original XBOX

Mattel Brick Shop’s new set is based on the original XBOX that launched in North America on November 15, 2001. Rather than shrinking it into a small display model, Mattel went with a full-size recreation of both the console and controller.

The Duke controller is fully buildable and has working buttons. Pressing them activates four different light-and-sound sequences connected to the game dioramas. Mattel also tucked in a button combination that activates a separate lighting effect.

Mattel went beyond making this something you build once and put on a shelf. Opening the console, hearing the startup sequence, and using the Duke controller add more personality to the finished model.

Mattel lists the set for ages 17 and up. With 3,509 pieces, it’s clearly aimed at older XBOX fans and collectors rather than being a smaller afternoon build.

Halo, Morrowind And Psychonauts Get Removable Dioramas

The inside of the console is where the anniversary theme really comes together. Mattel included removable scenes based on Halo: Combat Evolved, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and Psychonauts.

Each diorama can be taken out and displayed separately. The set also includes 12 NanoWorld figures tied to the three games, so there’s more to see once the console is opened.

Halo: Combat Evolved is an easy choice for a set celebrating the original XBOX. It launched alongside the console in North America on November 15, 2001, making it part of XBOX history from day one.

Morrowind and Psychonauts make the selection more interesting than simply turning the interior into one large Halo tribute. Together, the three games cover more of the original XBOX era without turning the build into a history lesson.

Mattel Canada Lists The Set At $449.99

Mattel says the set is available for presale through select retailers globally. The company specifically names Amazon, Best Buy, and Mattel Creations among participating retailers.

In Canada, Mattel’s own store lists the building set at $449.99. That price puts it firmly in collector territory, alongside the set’s 3,509 pieces, full-size build, electronics, dioramas, and NanoWorld figures.

The set arrives during XBOX’s 25th anniversary year, which has already included several other celebrations. We previously covered the XBOX FanFest global tour, which includes Toronto, along with the earlier XBOX and Fanta anniversary collaboration.
