Ecco creator Ed Annunziata is asking fans what they’d like to see inside an “ultimate collectors box” for Ecco the Dolphin: Complete. In an August 31 post on X, Annunziata opened the floor to ideas and suggested some of them could end up being used.
He also shared a photo filled with older Ecco memorabilia, including a large SEGA-branded box, artwork, and printed material. Fans didn’t waste much time getting involved either. One of the early suggestions was a dolphin plush.
Fans Can Help Shape the Ecco Complete Collector’s Box
What I like about Annunziata’s approach is that he isn’t showing off a finished box and asking what everyone thinks afterward. He’s bringing Ecco fans into the conversation while ideas are still being thrown around.
“Brainstorm on this thread,” Annunziata wrote while asking what people think the box should include.
There are no confirmed contents yet, and this isn’t a formal Collector’s Edition announcement. We don’t have pricing, preorder details, a release date, or even a look at what the eventual package could be.
Still, the photo Annunziata chose makes for a pretty good starting point. It appears to show older Ecco packaging and collectibles rather than a mock-up of the new box, tying the discussion back to the series’ history.
Ecco the Dolphin: Complete Is Bringing Ecco Back
This comes a few months after Ecco the Dolphin: Complete was announced in April. A&R Atelier is bringing back Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, while also working on a brand-new Ecco game.
Annunziata leads the studio, which includes members of the original Ecco development team. A&R Atelier has also confirmed that it is developing its Ecco projects in partnership with SEGA.
We covered the Ecco the Dolphin: Complete announcement when it was first revealed, and the collector’s box adds another interesting piece to Ecco’s return.
There’s something especially fitting about asking longtime fans what should go into it. Ecco has decades of artwork, music, manuals, and other material that could make for some fun collector extras if the team decides to dig into that history.
The Ecco Community Is Already Sharing Ideas
I jumped into Annunziata’s thread too. My suggestions included a proper Ecco art book with concept art and development history, the soundtrack on CD or vinyl, a replica Mega Drive/Genesis manual, a numbered certificate, and an Ecco figure or plush.
Whether anything like that makes it into the box is another question, but that’s part of what makes this fun right now. Annunziata is giving Ecco fans a chance to throw ideas around before we know what the final package will contain.
For now, there’s no price, release date, preorder window, or confirmed contents. But if Ecco Complete really is getting the ultimate collector’s box Annunziata is talking about, I’m very curious to see how much of the community brainstorming eventually makes it inside.
