If you've spent years trying to master earthbending in your living room, today, April 28, 2026, marks the official arrival of a way to do it for real. Avatar: The Last Airbender Earth Rumble is now available on Nex Playground, bringing the first of several planned element-based games to the motion-controlled console.
Unlike previous games in this franchise that relied on button combos, this launch focuses on full-body tracking to turn your physical movements into bending strikes on the screen.
Earthbending mechanics and motion tracking
The core of Earth Rumble is built around Toph Beifong’s role as your trainer and guide. Nex has focused on a controller-free experience here, meaning your actual stances and strikes determine how you manipulate the earth. You'll need to learn specific movements to launch boulders or create defensive walls, which makes the game feel more like a martial arts simulator than a standard fighting game.
Clearing your floor space is a must for this one, as the camera needs to see your full range of motion to track the heavier strikes correctly. It’s a physical way to play that fits the energy of the show, especially if you’re looking for a workout that doesn't feel like a chore.
Characters in the Earth Rumble Tournament
Once you move past Toph’s training, the game opens up into the underground Earth Rumble Tournament. You'll face a roster of benders pulled directly from the animated series, featuring the boulder-smashing heavy hitters the show is known for. Each opponent has a specific rhythm that forces you to react and change your defensive stance on the fly.
The launch version includes three primary modes: Story Mode, Training Mode, and Rematch Mode. Story Mode tracks your rise through the tournament ranks, while Rematch Mode lets you jump back into specific fights you’ve already won. It’s a focused package that leans into the competitive nature of the Earth Kingdom without over complicating the setup.
Nex Play Pass expansion plans
Avatar: The Last Airbender Earth Rumble joins the platform through the Nex Play Pass subscription, following the broader Nex Playground spring 2026 lineup announced earlier this quarter. Nex recently hit the one million units sold milestone, and adding a major franchise like Avatar is a clear move to keep that momentum going.
Since the console is built specifically for shared rooms, having an active, recognizable franchise like this helps bridge the gap between traditional gaming and active play. It’s a smart move for the platform, and fans can master earthbending while waiting for other elements to follow in future updates.
