Arc System Works just revealed the next character for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Peni Parker is officially joining the roster, and she isn’t coming alone. She’s the final member of a new four-person squad called The Amazing Guardians.

If you’ve seen the Spider-Verse movies, you know Peni doesn’t fight on her own. She is bringing her SP//dr mech into the arena. This gives her a technical playstyle that’s quite a bit different from the brawlers I’ve seen in the game so far. I’m especially interested in how she handles. The developers say she uses a range of gadgets and tools to change her strategy during a match.

Amazing Guardians and the Knowhere Stage

Peni is joining some heavy hitters on the Amazing Guardians team. Spider-Man leads the group, with Ms. Marvel and Star-Lord rounding out the lineup. It’s a cool mix of younger heroes. They’ll even have their own story arc in the game’s Episode Mode.

The reveal trailer also gave us a first view of a new stage called Knowhere. It’s the home base for the Guardians and looks like a great backdrop for these 4v4 battles. Speaking of teams, the game has a feature that automatically names your squad based on Marvel lore. It’s a small touch, but having a ring announcer call out a unique team name is the kind of detail that makes these fighting games feel special.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Launch Details

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is still on track for an August 6 launch on PS5 and PC. If you’re heading to EVO Japan in May, you’ll be able to try Peni Parker for yourself in a new playable demo. I'm curious to see how the competitive crowd feels about her mech mechanics once they get their hands on the controller.
