Montreal-based Tribute Games has released the first public demo for Scott Pilgrim EX, letting you try the new adventure brawler early on Steam. The demo is live now on Steam and will also be featured during Steam Next Fest from February 23 to March 2, giving you a clear window to try it before launch.

Tribute Games is the studio behind TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, and this time it’s taking Scott back through a twisted version of Toronto. The full game arrives March 3, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Back in January, Tribute Games confirmed the March 3 release date and introduced Matthew Patel and Robot-01 as new playable fighters. If you want a refresher on the roster and story setup, you can check out our earlier Scott Pilgrim EX breakdown before diving into the demo.

Steam Demo Covers the Opening Quests

The Steam demo covers the first two quests of Scott Pilgrim EX. You can jump in on your own or with friends in 1–4 player co-op, working through Scott’s offbeat take on Toronto while gangs of robots, demons, and vegans try to shut your band down.

The demo includes four playable characters from the full roster of seven: Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Lucas Lee, and Roxy Richter. Each one moves and fights differently, with their own attacks and special moves, so it’s worth swapping characters instead of sticking to one run.

Levels pull you through connected Toronto neighbourhoods, with side-scrolling brawling at the centre. You’ll string together punches and kicks, throw anything you can pick up, and use special attacks to clear space when fights get busy. Everything is presented with chunky pixel art and quick, arcade-style combat that lines up with Tribute’s other retro-inspired games.

New Story, Returning Creators, and a March 3 Launch

Scott Pilgrim EX tells a brand-new story co-written by series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley in partnership with Tribute Games. The game takes place in a warped timeline where Toronto has been split apart by rival gangs, with Scott’s bandmates kidnapped and a new mystery sitting behind everything.

The demo also gives you an early listen to new music from Anamanaguchi, who are back after scoring Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. Their chiptune style returns here with fresh tracks built around the new fights and locations.

If you want to try Scott Pilgrim EX before it hits consoles and PC in March, you can grab the demo free on Steam now and keep playing through Steam Next Fest. The full launch on March 3 brings the complete campaign, the full seven-character lineup, and both online and local co-op across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
