Tribute Games has announced Scott Pilgrim EX will launch digitally on March 3, with a new trailer revealing two additional playable characters ahead of release. The upcoming brawler continues the studio’s work with the Scott Pilgrim universe, delivering an original story and a new take on the series’ side-scrolling combat.
The release date was announced alongside a new gameplay trailer, which introduces Matthew Patel and Robot-01 as part of the game’s seven-character lineup. Scott Pilgrim EX is being developed by Tribute Games in collaboration with series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, with publishing support from Universal Products & Experiences.
Two New Fighters Join the Roster
The new trailer confirms that Matthew Patel and Robot-01 will both be playable characters when Scott Pilgrim EX launches.
Matthew Patel brings a theatrical fighting style built around elemental attacks and crowd control. His move set leans into supernatural abilities, letting him summon demonic helpers, manipulate enemy movement, and chain together attacks that control space during fights.
Robot-01 offers a completely different approach. Designed by the Katayanagi Twins, the mechanical fighter focuses on speed and raw power, using thrusters, ranged attacks, and heavy strikes to overwhelm enemies. Its kit is built for aggressive play and quick crowd clearing.
A New Story Set in Toronto
Scott Pilgrim EX features an original story written in collaboration with Bryan Lee O’Malley. The plot follows Scott, Ramona, and their allies as Toronto falls into chaos after members of Sex Bob-omb are kidnapped and their instruments stolen.
You’ll move through different parts of the city, taking on gangs, robots, and familiar faces along the way. The game mixes new locations with references longtime fans will recognize, keeping everything rooted in the Scott Pilgrim universe while still telling a fresh story.
Tribute Games has confirmed that seven playable characters will be available at launch, with one final character set to be revealed before release.

Classic Brawler Action With a Modern Touch
Gameplay in Scott Pilgrim EX stays rooted in classic brawler design, with each character offering a distinct move set and upgrade path. Combat emphasizes positioning, timing, and crowd control, with interactive environments that let players use everyday objects as weapons.
The game also features new music from Anamanaguchi, continuing their long association with the franchise and reinforcing the energetic tone that fans expect. Scott Pilgrim EX launches digitally on March 3 for Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with physical editions planned for a later date.
With a new story, more playable characters, and Tribute Games back on development, Scott Pilgrim EX feels like a proper follow-up that knows what made the original fun while still trying a few new things.
