During PlayStation’s latest State of Play, KONAMI officially unveiled METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2, confirming both the project’s existence and its release date.
The collection launches August 27 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, alongside the debut of its first trailer.
A Long-Missing Chapter Finally Returns
The centrepiece of Master Collection Vol. 2 is the first modern port of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a title that has remained locked to PlayStation 3 hardware since its original release. Its inclusion removes one of the last major gaps in the series’ availability and brings the core Metal Gear timeline fully onto current platforms.
Alongside MGS4, the collection also includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, complete with support for online co-op play with up to six players.
Additional Games and Digital Extras
Master Collection Vol. 2 also adds Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, expanding the package beyond the mainline console entries.
As with the first volume, the collection includes a range of digital extras, including a Screenplay Book, Master Book, Digital Soundtrack, and a lore-focused Database designed to centralize story material, background information, and series history.
Continuing KONAMI’s Preservation Push
Master Collection Vol. 2 keeps KONAMI’s recent approach intact, bringing more of the Metal Gear series onto modern hardware without reworking the games themselves. It’s about making these entries playable again today, not asking you to rely on older systems to access them.
The newly released trailer offers the first official look at how these games will appear across current platforms ahead of the collection’s arrival later this summer.
