The announcement arrived alongside a new trailer that outlines the initial lineup and confirms more titles are planned later this year. The collection will be available through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

Classic features with modern conveniences
Nintendo says Virtual Boy Nintendo Classics includes the same quality-of-life tools found in other Switch Online retro libraries. That includes:
- Rewind gameplay
- Save states
- Control remapping
- Visual settings options
Later in 2026, Nintendo also plans to add screen colour options, giving you alternatives to the Virtual Boy’s original red-and-black presentation.
To access the library, Nintendo says you’ll need the Virtual Boy accessory, which will be available in both a standard version and a lower-cost cardboard model.
A return for one of Nintendo’s most unusual systems
Originally released in 1995, the Virtual Boy remains one of Nintendo’s most unusual hardware experiments. Despite its short lifespan, it developed a cult following thanks to games like Virtual Boy Wario Land and Teleroboxer.
High cost, limited software support, and its distinctive display technology led to the system being discontinued within a year. Even so, many of its games have remained difficult to access legally for decades.
Virtual Boy Nintendo Classics brings that catalogue forward in a more accessible way, while also preserving titles that were previously locked to ageing hardware.
Release date and trailer
