Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios have released the first official trailer for Masters of the Universe, confirming the long-awaited live-action film will arrive in theatres on June 5, 2026.

The movie marks the first major big-screen return for the franchise in decades and brings He-Man back into the spotlight with a new cast, a modern take on Eternia, and a theatrical release planned worldwide.

A Return to Eternia on the Big Screen

Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee), Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam as he’s drawn back to Eternia after years away. When the Sword of Power leads him home, he discovers the planet has fallen under the control of Skeletor.

To fight back, Adam must reunite with his allies and embrace his destiny as He-Man, setting up a story that blends classic elements of the franchise with a more cinematic approach.

The film stars:

  • Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam / He-Man
  • Jared Leto as Skeletor
  • Idris Elba as Duncan / Man-At-Arms
  • Camila Mendes as Teela
  • Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn
  • Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress
  • James Purefoy as King Randor
  • Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena
  • Kristen Wiig as the voice of Orko

A Familiar Story With a Modern Take

If you grew up with Masters of the Universe, this one should feel instantly familiar. The story follows Prince Adam returning to Eternia after years away, only to find the world in bad shape and Skeletor firmly in control. From there, it moves into the same themes the series has always carried, figuring out who you are, stepping up when it matters, and dealing with the weight that comes with power.

What’s clear from the trailer is that the movie isn’t trying to rewrite the franchise. Instead, it keeps the core idea intact and builds around it with bigger visuals and a scale that fits a modern theatrical release. It still feels like Masters of the Universe, just presented in a way that makes sense for the big screen.

The film comes from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios, with Sony handling international release. Travis Knight is directing, and if you’ve seen Bumblebee, you know he tends to focus on character first and spectacle second, which fits this property well. The script is handled by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham.

Masters of the Universe hits theatres on June 5, 2026. The trailer is now live, giving a solid first look at the cast, the tone, and how this version of Eternia is shaping up ahead of release.
