Wildgate and Total War: Three Kingdoms headline this week’s free games on the Epic Games Store.
By Jon Scarr
Epic Games Store free game releases are back to the regular weekly drop after the Holiday Sale, and the first free lineup of 2026 comes with a fun mix. From today, January 1, 2026, to January 8, 2026, you can claim Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wildgate for free. Once they’re in your library, they’re yours to keep.
Claim windows are still time-limited, so it’s worth grabbing both even if you’re not sure when you’ll actually play them.
This Week’s Free Epic Games Store Games
Total War: Three Kingdoms

Total War: Three Kingdoms brings large-scale strategy and historic warfare to this week’s free Epic Games Store lineup.
Your decisions on the campaign map matter just as much as what happens in battle. Deals fall apart, betrayals happen, and key leaders can completely change how a war unfolds. If you like strategy games that reward patience and long-term planning, this is a big one to claim.
Wildgate

Wildgate adds fast-paced sci-fi action to this week’s free Epic Games Store lineup.
Wildgate is the opposite vibe. It’s smaller and more experimental, with a focus on exploration and discovery instead of scale. The appeal here is poking around strange spaces, finding paths forward, and seeing what the game is trying to do moment to moment.
This is the kind of free game that’s easy to skip when you’re only watching for blockbuster drops, but it’s exactly the sort of wildcard that makes Epic’s weekly giveaways worth checking.
How Long You Have to Claim Them
You can claim Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wildgate for free on the Epic Games Store until January 8 at 11:00 AM ET.
Once they’re added to your library, they’re yours permanently. You don’t need to install them right away, so there’s no downside to claiming both now and deciding later which one actually earns your time.
Next Week’s Free Game
Epic has already revealed what’s coming next. Starting January 8, the next free game will be Bloons TD 6, free from January 8 to January 15.
If you’re into tower defence games with lots of upgrades and long-term progression, that one is an easy grab.
Worth Checking Back
This week’s pairing works well. One game is a big strategy commitment you can sink into for hours, and the other is something lighter and more curious that’s easy to sample. Now that the Holiday Sale sprint is over, this is a solid week to get back into the habit of checking Epic’s free games again.
Are you grabbing Total War: Three Kingdoms, trying Wildgate, or just claiming both and figuring it out later?
