Bubsy 4D is officially launching on May 22, 2026, marking the character’s first full 3D release in nearly three decades.
Atari and developer Fabraz confirmed the release date alongside details for a physical collector’s edition coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will also be available digitally on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
Bubsy Returns in a New 3D Platformer
Bubsy 4D marks the character’s first 3D outing since 1996, bringing the series back in a more modern platforming style. You’ll spend most of your time running, jumping, gliding, and moving through themed environments built around exploration rather than speed alone.
This time, you’re chasing down the Golden Fleece after it’s stolen by the BaaBots, travelling across a set of fabric- and craft-inspired worlds along the way. Each area ends with a boss encounter, while optional challenges are there if you want to dig a little deeper.
According to Atari, you’ll also be able to unlock new abilities, customize Bubsy with different outfits, and take on online time trials that let you compare your runs against other players.
Physical Edition Confirmed for Nintendo Switch
Alongside the digital release, Atari confirmed a physical collector’s edition for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders are now open through Atari’s official store.
The physical edition includes:
- Game cartridge
- Tuck-in exterior box
- User manual
- Poster
- Artbook
The Nintendo Switch version will retail for $39.99 USD, while the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is priced at $49.99 USD. Both versions launch on May 22.
Bubsy 4D Platforms and Release Details
Bubsy 4D launches digitally on May 22 for:
- PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Windows)
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
- Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
The game features a new soundtrack by Fat Bard and brings back several familiar characters from the series, including Terri, Terry, Virgil, and Oblivia.
A Return Decades in the Making
Bubsy 4D marks the character’s first major return to 3D platforming in nearly 30 years. This new game appears to be aiming for a more focused take on the formula.
With a confirmed release date and a physical edition arriving day one, Bubsy 4D is set to return on May 22.
