YouTube is wrapping up 2025 by sharing the videos, creators and songs that Canadians kept coming back to this year. The platform also happened to celebrate its 20th birthday, which helped shine a light on how much the site has changed over time. Even with all of those changes, one thing stayed consistent. Pop culture still moves through YouTube, and creators continue to shape the way fans discover new trends. Gaming slipped into the mix with Roblox experiences and Nintendo Switch 2 showing up on Canada’s trending topics list.

One trend kept popping up everywhere. KPop Demon Hunters kept showing up across multiple lists. It charted as a top trending topic in Canada, and several songs from the show appeared across YouTube’s Top Songs and Shorts Songs lists. Soda Pop, Golden, How It’s Done and Your Idol all made the cut, showing how much momentum the series has right now.

YouTube also highlighted massive moments in music. APT by Rosé and Bruno Mars took the top spot for Songs on YouTube in 2025. It reached one billion views quickly, becoming the fastest KPop track to ever hit that milestone. It also passed the long-held record set by Gangnam Style.

Shorts continued to push older songs back into the spotlight too. Pretty Little Baby by Connie Francis and Rock That Body by The Black Eyed Peas climbed up the Shorts Songs list thanks to dance and content trends. Newer releases also found breakthrough moments on Shorts, including Doechii’s hit Anxiety.

YouTube Canada also revealed this year’s list of Canadian Creators to Watch. The group covers a wide range of interests, including K-pop, sports fandom, gaming, crafting and more. The list shows how diverse Canadian audiences have become across YouTube, and how creators continue to guide conversations and trends in real time.

Closing Thoughts

Looking through this year’s YouTube lists, it’s nice to see how much gaming still shapes what Canadians watch. Roblox experiences showed up as a trending topic, and that surprised me a bit, mostly because those fan-made worlds keep getting more creative every year. KPop Demon Hunters also crossed into gaming circles in a big way, and you can feel that blend of fandoms when you scroll through Shorts or community posts.

There’s a real mix here. You have massive songs hitting a billion views, older tracks finding new life through dance trends, and creators building whole communities around sports, books, crafting and gaming. It says a lot about how people use YouTube now. Everyone drops in for something different, but it still ends up feeling connected in a weird way. I spent more time than I expected checking out some of the creators on this list, and it honestly makes sense why they’re gaining traction.

Seeing Nintendo Switch 2 show up in the trending topics list also caught my eye. It’s a reminder that big gaming moments still push conversations on YouTube, especially when new hardware launches or when a fan community latches onto something. It all ties back to how YouTube continues to be a space where gaming, music, and pop culture blend together without feeling forced.
