The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues to build momentum, and today Japan joined the fun with the release of its own official trailer. This new version gives a look at the film ahead of its April 24, 2026 Japanese premiere, and it arrives with a full breakdown of the Japanese voice cast.
If you missed our earlier coverage, you can check out the movie’s original announcement from September here, and the first worldwide trailer from November here. Today’s update adds another important piece to the puzzle as marketing ramps up across regions.
The Japanese trailer leads with a familiar lineup. Mamoru Miyano returns as Mario, joined once again by Arisa Shida as Princess Peach, Tasuku Hatanaka as Luigi, Kenta Miyake as Bowser and Tomokazu Seki as Toad. All five voiced their characters in Japan’s version of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which went on to earn more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Their return gives the sequel a sense of continuity from the moment the trailer starts.
Two new characters also make their debut in this version of the cast list. Maaya Sakamoto steps in as Rosalina, marking the character’s first appearance in the movie series. Daiki Yamashita voices Bowser Jr., who also joins the films for the first time. Both appear briefly in the new footage, giving audiences a quick teaser of how they’ll sound when the movie hits theatres.

Toho-Towa also confirmed several production details in today’s release. The movie is once again produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. Universal Pictures is co-financing and will distribute the film worldwide. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return after their work on the 2023 film, with Matthew Fogel once again writing the script and Brian Tyler composing the score.
Like the global trailer last month, the Japanese version focuses more on tone and atmosphere than story specifics. The trailer highlights the colourful galaxy backdrop and includes short glimpses of the returning heroes. While it doesn’t reveal new plot information, the cast confirmation is the standout news for Japanese fans.
With Japan’s release set for April 24 and the rest of the world launching earlier in the month, it’s clear we’ll be seeing more region-specific updates as we get closer to 2026. For now, today’s trailer gives another look at how Illumination and Nintendo are bringing this cosmic adventure to life across different markets.
