Paramount has added an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” to the calendar hitting theatres on December 22, 2028. The news comes from a recent report by Variety, confirming that the Sonic movie series continues to expand well beyond the main trilogy.

This upcoming film is separate from Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is already set for March 19, 2027. Paramount is keeping all plot and casting details under wraps for now, but the project is being produced by Neal H. Moritz, the same producer behind the hugely successful Sonic trilogy.

With the first three Sonic films passing $1 billion worldwide, it’s no surprise the franchise is getting another big theatrical push. A 2028 event film suggests something larger-scale than a standard sequel, but for now, there’s no confirmed theme, story direction, or returning characters. Just the release date and the confirmation it’s part of the wider Sonic universe.

Sonic fans now have two major movies on the horizon. Sonic 4 arrives in 2027, and this new event film follows one year later. If you’re excited about the next era of Sonic on the big screen, 2027 and 2028 are looking stacked.
