The Pokémon Company has revealed a huge update for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Mega Lucario Z is officially making its debut when the Mega Dimension DLC launches on December 10, 2025, for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. The reveal comes with a new trailer on the official Pokémon YouTube channel and new details about a new side mission that lets you catch Mewtwo.
This update expands the world of Lumiose City with a major dose of new content, and it gives fans a closer look at how Z Mega Evolutions work in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Here is everything announced today.
Mega Lucario Z Brings a New Type of Power
Mega Lucario Z is described as a newly discovered form of Lucario. It was confirmed as a Mega Evolution after researchers observed how its power surged through exposure to a Mega Stone. The press materials highlight that its long fur and fan-shaped tail can visually disorient opponents, making it tougher for rivals to read its movements in close quarters.
Several parts of its body, including the backs of its hands and its shins, have been hardened with steel energy. This lets Mega Lucario Z hit with precise, concentrated strikes. It also follows the rules of Z Mega Evolutions. These forms can fire off moves faster, but they burn through Mega Power quickly, so they work best in fast, decisive battles.
Mega Lucario has already appeared in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but Mega Lucario Z will be exclusive to the Mega Dimension DLC.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension brings new encounters and a closer look at the expanded world around Lumiose City. The trailer released today highlights the new form and teases what fans can expect when the DLC arrives on December 10, 2025. It will be available on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
A New Side Mission Lets You Catch Mewtwo
Players can take on a brand new extra side mission right now. The Pokémon Company confirmed that Trainers can receive two items through the Mystery Gift menu. These items are the Mewtwonite X stone and the Mewtwonite Y stone. Once you claim them, the Mewtwo mission unlocks in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
The mission points you toward Lysandre Café. From there, exploring the deepest areas of Lysandre Labs may cause the old systems inside to reactivate when they detect the Mega Stones. Finishing this mission gives you the chance to catch Mewtwo and add it to your team.

This update gives Pokémon Legends: Z-A fans plenty to dive into.
