Canadian indie developer Eldamar Studio, based in Calgary, Alberta, has officially revealed its upcoming horror adventure Lucid Falls during the Day of the Devs: The Game Awards Digital Showcase on December 11. The announcement was paired with the game’s first trailer, offering an early look at a project that blends psychological horror with surreal, dream-like environments.

Lucid Falls takes place entirely inside a lucid dream. You are trapped in a shifting nightmare where reality does not behave normally. Gravity, space, and time can all be manipulated as you attempt to survive and uncover what is really happening inside this fractured world. The reveal positions Lucid Falls as a slow-burning horror experience focused on atmosphere and mood rather than constant action.

According to Eldamar Studio, the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and is planned as a single-player experience. A PC release on Steam is confirmed, with future console versions to be announced at a later date.

A Dream World That Fights Back

The core idea behind Lucid Falls revolves around manipulating reality itself. As you move through surreal environments, you can alter gravity, shift space, and interact with time to reach new areas and solve challenges. These mechanics are built directly into the world design, creating spaces that feel unstable and unpredictable rather than structured or safe.

Combat is also part of the experience. Eldamar Studio describes encounters with grotesque creatures born from the dream world itself, forcing you to fight to survive while navigating environments that are constantly changing. The focus is on survival rather than power, with limited control and distorted surroundings shaping every encounter.

Atmosphere plays a central role throughout the game. The Calgary-based studio emphasizes that Lucid Falls is not just about scares, but about how the world feels, moves, and reacts to your presence. Lighting, sound, and environmental design work together to create a sense of unease that carries through every area of the dream.

Lucid Falls Release Plans, What’s Next and Why I am Excited

Lucid Falls is currently targeting a release window in 2026. Eldamar Studio has confirmed PC as the initial platform, with plans to share more details on additional platforms in the future. For now, the reveal marks the first public step for the Canadian studio following its debut at Day of the Devs during The Game Awards.

After watching the reveal, Lucid Falls felt like my kind of horror game right away. The focus on atmosphere and reality-shifting ideas feels like something you experience slowly, not rush through, and that’s exactly what I look for in this genre.

I’m especially curious to see how the gravity and space manipulation actually feels moment to moment, since those ideas can completely change how a horror game sticks with you. It’s early, but this is one I’ll be keeping on my radar as development continues.
