LEGO Batman returned to the spotlight during The Game Awards 2025 with a new trailer and fresh details, including its release date. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to launch on May 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, offering a closer look at how combat, teamwork, and exploration are shaping up in Gotham.

The trailer opens with the city in familiar trouble. Villains are running loose, and it is up to Batman, and you in LEGO form, to restore order. Combat appears to be a major focus this time around. According to the developers, the goal was to make fights feel smoother and more free-flowing than in previous LEGO games, while still keeping the movement and humour fans expect. The footage shows Batman handling groups of Joker henchmen with ease, but larger and better-equipped enemies quickly make it clear that help is needed.

That is where the Bat-Family comes in.

The Bat-Family Joins the Fight

Batman will not be working alone in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Throughout the campaign, Detective Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Catwoman join the action, each bringing their own gadgets and abilities into combat.

The trailer highlights how differently each character plays. Robin uses acrobatics tied to his circus training. Batgirl relies on her hackarang to bypass security systems and take remote control of machinery. Nightwing jumps into combat with his battle staff, while Catwoman calls on feline companions to distract enemies before striking with her whip and cartwheel kicks. Jim Gordon also returns with his foam sprayer, first shown when the game was initially announced at Gamescom.

Combat encounters appear to encourage switching between characters to handle different threats, rather than relying on Batman alone in every situation.

Gotham Travel and Iconic Vehicles

Gotham is presented as a large city, and movement options look more varied than before. Batman can use several versions of the Batmobile, including designs inspired by Batman (1989), The Dark Knight (2008), The Batman (2022), and Batman: The Animated Series. Other characters also have their own rides to keep pace. Nightwing, for example, is shown riding his Nightcycle in the trailer.

The new footage also gives a brief first look at the Batcave, complete with an oversized LEGO-built penny. This hub acts as a showcase for Batman’s growing collection of Batsuits. Outfits inspired by the Bronze Age and Zero Year comics, along with suits from several films, are confirmed. The rest of the Bat-Family also has outfit options, bringing the total to 100 suits and outfits to collect.
