Fans of one of Nintendo’s most celebrated Mario games may have plenty to look forward to on the big screen. Jack Black, who voices Bowser in the upcoming Super Mario animated sequel, says fans of Super Mario Galaxy will be very happy with how the new movie turns out.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Black shared a brief but promising tease about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. While he avoided giving away any story details, he made it clear that the film pays close attention to the source material that longtime fans know so well.

“I am sworn to secrecy,” Black said. “But there are tons of Easter eggs, and anyone who loves that universe will be very pleased with the way that it’s been brought to the big screen.”

Super Mario Galaxy’s Influence on the New Movie

Super Mario Galaxy first released on the Wii in 2007 and quickly became one of the most talked about entries in the Mario series. Its space setting, gravity-based gameplay, and orchestral music helped it stand out, and it remains a favourite for many fans years later. That legacy naturally brings high expectations for a movie inspired by it.

Black’s comments come from a place of genuine interest in games. Beyond his role as Bowser, he has long been open about enjoying video games and has even voiced characters in titles like Brütal Legend. That background gives his praise a bit more weight, especially when talking about respecting a specific Mario era.

The new movie follows the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned over $1.36 billion worldwide. With that momentum behind it, Nintendo and Illumination appear ready to pull from some of the franchise’s most iconic ideas.

Super Mario Galaxy is not the only influence, though. The first trailer has already shown visual nods to Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, suggesting the sequel will pull from several modern Mario titles rather than focusing on a single game.

For now, details remain limited. Still, if Jack Black’s comments are any indication, fans who spent countless hours floating between planets on the Wii should feel optimistic about how that experience is being translated to film.
