One of the more interesting reveals at The Game Awards 2025 came from Wildflower Interactive, a new studio founded by industry veteran Bruce Straley. The team used the stage to unveil Coven of the Chicken Foot, their debut project, and it immediately felt different from many of the night’s larger announcements.

Rather than chasing scale or spectacle, the reveal focused on tone, character, and creative intent. It was the kind of introduction that trusted the idea itself to carry interest, shaped by years of experience inside major AAA productions.

A New Studio Built Around Creative Freedom

Wildflower Interactive was formed around a desire to work outside the usual constraints of big-budget development. Straley’s past work on The Last of Us and Uncharted helped define how companion relationships could feel natural and meaningful, and Coven of the Chicken Foot looks like a new evolution of that thinking.

The studio’s approach is about pushing creative boundaries while keeping things approachable. That philosophy came through clearly in how the game was introduced, focusing on mood and connection rather than spectacle.

“Wildflower Interactive is built on the notion of pushing myself creatively and working with like-minded creative people, driven by a strong desire to continue the conversation about what kind of experiences video games can deliver,” Straley said. “We’re doing that with Coven of the Chicken Foot. It nods at the fun and simplicity of old school games, while also evolving the pairing of storytelling and interactivity in a new, challenging way.”

A Focus on Relationships and Interaction

The reveal didn’t rush to explain how the game works or break things down piece by piece. Instead, it leaned into the relationship at the centre of the experience, hinting at how the two leads connect and react to the world around them.

From a gamer’s point of view, that choice worked. Watching the show, it felt like a reminder that not every reveal needs to spell everything out right away. Sometimes it’s more interesting to get a sense of personality first and let curiosity do the rest.

A Personal Creative Statement

Straley also spoke about how meaningful this project is to him and the team, especially as a first release under a new studio.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve built at Wildflower and can’t wait for people to explore the world we’re creating and get to know our lovable duo,” he said.

That pride came through clearly during the reveal. It felt less like a pitch and more like an invitation, which made the project easier to connect with on a personal level.

Platform Details and What Comes Next

Coven of the Chicken Foot is currently confirmed for PC via Steam, where it is now available to wishlist. No release window was shared during The Game Awards 2025, but the debut was confident enough to put the game on the radar.

As a first look, it did what a reveal should do. It introduced a new studio, set clear creative expectations, and left just enough unanswered to make the wait feel worthwhile.
