Remedy Entertainment officially revealed Control Resonant during The Game Awards 2025, confirming the next chapter in the Control universe and a new paranatural crisis arriving in 2026. The announcement included a reveal trailer and the first story details, shifting the focus from Jesse Faden to her brother, Dylan.

The original Control followed Jesse’s search for Dylan inside the shifting halls of the Federal Bureau of Control. Resonant tells the other half of that story. After years in confinement, Dylan is now being deployed by the same organisation that once held him, at a moment when reality itself is beginning to fracture.

Dylan Faden Takes Centre Stage

In Control Resonant, you step into the role of Dylan Faden as he is sent into a collapsing Manhattan reshaped by paranatural forces. Remedy describes the city as a new battleground where gravity bends, buildings twist, and cosmic threats distort familiar spaces.

Dylan is not only facing an external threat. He is also confronting his past, his connection to the chaos spreading through the city, and his relationship with Jesse. Themes of redemption, identity, and control sit at the core of the story.

Remedy has confirmed that Resonant tells a complete story on its own. You do not need to have played the original Control to follow what is happening, though returning fans will recognize familiar ideas and echoes from earlier events.

A More Open Take on Control’s World

Control Resonant is described as a third-person action RPG with open-ended progression and exploration. Instead of a single enclosed setting like the Oldest House, the game unfolds across multiple zones throughout Manhattan. Each area features branching missions, encounters, and events that you can approach in different orders.

The world is built to reward curiosity. Exploration plays a larger role, with hidden discoveries and replayable content woven into the city’s design. Remedy says the goal is to give you more freedom in how you move through the world and how you engage with its dangers.

Combat Built Around Choice and Adaptation

Dylan’s abilities evolve through a progression system that supports different combat styles. You can shape how he fights by upgrading powers, improving mobility, and unlocking new ways to interact with the environment during combat.

At the centre of Dylan’s arsenal is the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that transforms on demand. It can switch from a heavy two-handed hammer to faster dual blades and other forms, letting you adjust to different enemies and situations as fights unfold.

Remedy emphasizes that encounters are meant to feel unpredictable. Abilities, upgrades, and buffs can be combined in different ways, encouraging experimentation and flexible approaches to combat.

A New Entry Point Into the Control Universe

While Control Resonant expands the wider universe, Remedy is positioning it as a fresh entry point. The story stands on its own, focusing on Dylan’s journey while remaining connected to the larger mythology of the Federal Bureau of Control.

According to the studio, Control and Resonant function like two sides of the same story. Each follows a different sibling through a world shaped by the same forces, but from distinct perspectives.

Control Resonant launches in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Mac. Remedy says more details will be shared as development continues, including deeper looks at gameplay systems and the evolving world.

Things are about to get strange again.
