XBOX and IKEA have teased a new collaboration, and we won’t have to wait long to find out more. IKEA Canada says something is coming on August 26, while a short teaser offers a few very XBOX-looking clues.
The video appears to show a bright green cushion shaped like either an X or controller D-pad. Another piece looks a lot like an oversized analogue stick. Neither company has revealed exactly what the collaboration includes, pricing, or availability yet.
The Teaser Looks Straight Out Of An XBOX Controller
IKEA’s teaser doesn’t show much, but the XBOX inspiration is hard to miss. The green cushion immediately resembles part of an XBOX controller. Another object has the rounded shape you would expect from an analogue stick.
Exactly what those pieces are is still part of the mystery. The second item looks like it could be a stool or table, but neither IKEA nor XBOX has identified it yet. I wouldn’t want to get ahead of what we can actually see.
That mystery makes the collaboration pretty fun to follow. Gaming furniture usually means desks, chairs, shelving, or accessories designed around a setup. Turning recognizable parts of an XBOX controller into home furnishings would be a much different approach.
It also feels very IKEA. Taking something instantly recognizable and making it functional for your room is more interesting than simply putting an XBOX logo on existing furniture.
IKEA Is Pointing To August 26 For More
The one date IKEA Canada has confirmed is August 26. Its teaser points XBOX fans toward that date, so we should learn much more about the collaboration then.
There has already been some confusion online about what happens next. Some reports have connected the collaboration to Gamescom, but that part has not been officially confirmed by IKEA or XBOX.
VGC looked into those claims and found that an image supposedly promoting a Gamescom reveal appears to have been AI-generated. The products shown in that image also don’t match the pieces visible in the official IKEA teaser.
For now, August 26 is the date worth watching. We still need to learn exactly what IKEA and XBOX are making and how many products are involved. Pricing and availability also remain unknown.
Considering how unusual the first teaser looks, I’m curious to see how far IKEA takes the XBOX controller idea when we learn more.
