| NinjaGuyX reviews the Brook Wingman P5, a controller adapter that lets supported controllers work on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. |

The Brook Wingman P5 is one heck of a device for the PlayStation 5. It essentially lets you use a wide variety of controllers on your PS5, and on PC too. I've got a lot to say about it.
There are multiple devices in the Wingman lineup, but the P5 is built around PlayStation 5 support, with PlayStation 4 and PC support too. If you saw my Brook Sniper 2 Review, this is another Brook accessory with a very specific use case. What makes it especially appealing is that it supports wireless Bluetooth with certain controllers, which makes the whole experience feel seamless.
The unboxing is straightforward. The compact box fits the device itself, a small pamphlet that doesn't really tell you much, and a USB-C cable. You'll want the full online guide for that. That's everything.
Brook Wingman P5 Setup Is Simple
The first thing you'll want to do is plug it into your PC and run the firmware update. This ensures everything works properly and unlocks support for more controllers. A recent update, for example, added support for the new Steam Controller, which is a great universal option if you're bouncing between platforms.
Setup is simple. Plug it into your console and wait for it to start slowly blinking blue. Hold the button until it blinks a little faster. That's pairing mode. Put your controller into pairing mode, and let it do its thing. This is a one-time setup. After that, you just wake your controller and you're good to go.
Brook also has companion software with a few handy extras. You can remap buttons, including back buttons, and assign macros to your controller. I'd skip the macros in competitive games though, since that's a fast track to getting banned. But it's a nice touch for everything else.
The compatible controller list is pretty extensive. I grabbed literally every controller in my house and tested them all, so let's get into it.
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Works Great On PS5
The main reason I bought the P5 was to use my Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 on PS5. And it delivers. I didn't notice any latency, and rumble works perfectly. That alone made the purchase worth it for me.
The one I was most excited to try was my Google Stadia Controller. Unfortunately, it was a no-go. Pairing mode did nothing, and plugging it in with a cable didn't help either. I've passed the feedback along to my contact at Brook. I really hope support comes eventually, because I love that controller.
Using a PS4 controller as if it were a PS5 controller is a feature I genuinely appreciate. Great for anyone who has a favourite controller for competitive games. Worked flawlessly.
I also dug out two ancient wired controllers, a third-party PS3 pad and one of the cheapest PC controllers money could buy back in the day. Happy to report both worked without a hitch.
Some Mobile Controllers Were More Hit And Miss
The next few were more of a mixed bag. My Nacon MG-X Pro, which is great for gaming on my fold phone, wouldn't pair wirelessly, but it did work when plugged in, so partial credit there.
My Backbone Pro, one of the newer mobile controllers, didn't work at all on either Bluetooth or wired. Same story with the MOGA XP5, though honestly I wasn't expecting much from that one.
The takeaway is simple. Before you buy, check Brook's official supported controller list. If your controller is on there, you're golden.
A couple of minor annoyances are worth mentioning. If the Wingman P5 is plugged in, the PS5 treats it as an active login attempt, so if I want to switch back to a PS5 controller, I have to unplug the device first. It'd be much cleaner if it only triggered a login when a controller actually connects.
Brook Wingman P5 Is Great If Your Controller Is Supported
It also only supports one controller at a time. Switching controllers means re-pairing, and multiplayer with multiple third-party controllers isn't an option.
But here's the bottom line. This thing is great. I bought it specifically to use my Xbox Elite 2 everywhere without the hassle, and it does exactly that. I've already put hours into Call of Duty, Elden Ring, and 007 First Light, and it's been completely friction-free after that initial setup.
If it supports your controller, I'd absolutely recommend it.
