| Evil Empire's take on the classic franchise runs with immediate, quick movement on the Nintendo Switch 2. |
By Carmelo Cianciotta
The Rogue Prince of Persia shines on the Nintendo Switch 2, finally delivering the portable performance this high speed acrobatic genre deserves. After a staggered release schedule that saw PC and other consoles get the jump, The Rogue Prince of Persia has finally landed on Nintendo hardware. Playing this on the Nintendo Switch 2 feels like the definitive way to experience Evil Empire’s take on the franchise.
The new hardware irons out the technical hiccups usually associated with high speed games on portable devices, resulting in a buttery smooth experience. Once the game started a few minutes in, I was already enjoying wall climbing action.

Wall Jumping Fun
On Nintendo Switch 2, the game locks to a rock solid smooth gameplay in both handheld and docked modes. This is critical for a game that relies on split second parries and wall runs. There is zero stutter, even when the screen is chaotic with Hun invaders.
The game’s distinct comic art style pops beautifully on the Nintendo Switch 2's display. The colours, deep purples, neon pinks, and vibrant golds, look incredibly crisp. The higher resolution in handheld mode makes the background details stand out clearly.
Developed by the studio behind Dead Cells, The Rogue Prince of Persia carves its own identity through movement. The defining mechanic is the wall run. Unlike Dead Cells, where you primarily dash through enemies, here you run over and around them. The background layer is interactive, allowing you to vault over shield bearers or gain height for a plunging attack.
It uses a dual weapon system involving primary melee and a secondary tool. The "kick" mechanic allows you to knock enemies into each other or into traps, adding a layer of tactical positioning to the hack and slash chaos.

The "Switch" Factor
The game feels tailored for handheld play. Runs are snappy, usually lasting 20 to 30 minutes, making it perfect for the Nintendo Switch 2's portable nature. The Joy Con 2’s improved haptics also add a nice crunch to the combat, specifically when shattering enemy shields or landing a heavy impact.

The Rogue Prince of Persia Is a Triumphant Return for the Prince
The Rogue Prince of Persia is a triumphant return for the Prince and a stellar showcase for indie style games on the Nintendo Switch 2. It leverages the extra horsepower to ensure that the gameplay remains fluid and responsive, which is non negotiable for this genre.
If you were waiting for the portable version, your patience has paid off. This is one of the best action games currently available on the system.
