Nintendo has announced Pictonico!, a free-to-start smart-device game launching May 28, 2026 for compatible mobile devices. Pre-registration is now open on the Play Store for Android and the App Store for iOS.

Pictonico! uses your own photos inside short minigames. You choose pictures already on your device or take new ones, then the game places those photos into different playable scenes.

Pictonico! Uses Your Photos For Short Minigames

The main idea is easy to understand. Pictonico! takes people from your photos and drops them into quick minigames built around sight gags and simple reactions.

In the Pictonico! announcement trailer, Nintendo shows exactly the kind of weird photo-based humour the game is going for. One photo can put your grandma into a skydiving scene. Another can turn your cousin into a ballerina. Carnival challenges, costume changes, and zombie attacks are also part of the mix.

That’s where Pictonico! has my curiosity. It sounds like the kind of game you open for five minutes, hand to someone beside you, and wait for the room to react when a familiar face shows up somewhere ridiculous. The hook is simple, but with the right photos, I can see this getting a laugh pretty quickly.

The trailer helps sell the idea better than a description can. Pictonico! isn’t trying to explain a complicated game structure. The joke depends on seeing someone you know appear in a ridiculous scene, then saving the result or showing it to them afterward.

Paid Volumes Unlock More Minigames

Pictonico! is free-to-start, but that doesn’t mean the full game is free. You can try a demo of some minigames without paying upfront. To go beyond that, you’ll need to purchase game volumes.

Buying volumes unlocks up to 80 minigames in total. That “up to” wording is important because it doesn’t mean every download includes 80 minigames for free. It also doesn’t confirm one flat price for everything.

Pricing for the paid volumes wasn’t included in the announcement. The exact number of free demo minigames also hasn’t been listed yet. If you’re curious, pre-registration gives you a simple way to keep the game on your radar before launch, but the full cost breakdown still needs to be confirmed.

Because Pictonico! uses personal photos, it’s important to know that photos are not sent to Nintendo, and you’re supposed to take photos only of people who have given permission. A compatible smart device is required, temporary network access may be needed for certain actions, and data charges may apply.

Pictonico! Saves Results As Images Or Videos

Pictonico! also lets you save the results as images or videos. For a game built around personal photos, that part makes sense. Half the fun seems to be keeping the weirdest result or showing it to the person in the photo afterward.

Pictonico! launches May 28, 2026 for compatible Android and iOS smart devices. Pre-registration is open now on the Play Store and the App Store.
