| The Logitech G512 X keyboard brings RGB lighting and purple accents to a compact PC gaming layout. |
By Jon Scarr
I've been tearing apart keyboards for years trying to find the sweet spot between fast gaming response and decent daily typing. Most brands make you pick one.
The Logitech G512 X tries to give you both. Analog gaming keyboards have been around for a minute, but letting you hot-swap them on the same PCB as traditional mechanical switches is a massive leap for the DIY market.
It isn't a cheap experiment, coming in at $249.99 CAD for the 75-percent layout. But after putting in the work dialing in the actuation points, I can confirm the Dual Swap technology genuinely gives you a competitive edge. It takes effort to configure, but the granular control over your movement is real.
Logitech G512 X Details
Platform: PC
Manufacturer: Logitech
Layout: 75%
Switches: Dual Swap Analog / Mechanical
Polling Rate: 8000Hz
A Tasting Menu of Switches
Getting into the guts of the keyboard, Logitech mapped out 39 specific switch beds that support both traditional mechanical inputs and their new analog options. You get a handful of Gateron KS-20 analog switches right in the box. I immediately threw them onto my WASD cluster. The inputs are fast, accurate, and completely customizable.
The analog input means the key doesn't just register an on or off state. It reads exactly how far down you press it. I programmed the W key with a dual-action command in Cyberpunk 2077. A light tap let V walk naturally through a crowded market, and bottoming out the key triggered a full sprint. The first time I didn't have to mash Shift to run away from the NCPD, I realized exactly what Logitech built here.
TMR Sensors Prove Speed Matters
Looking at the raw speed, the polling rate sits at a blisteringly fast 8000Hz. Logitech paired this with new TMR sensors that register your keystrokes with a 0.125ms reaction time. To test this, I jumped into some sweaty Valorant lobbies.
The moment I started counter-strafing, the advantage was obvious. Stopping my agent's movement happened instantly. There's zero delay between your brain deciding to stop and the crosshair settling. You don't need to be a professional to benefit from that kind of speed.
Dual Swap and Dialing In Your Keys
When you actually dig into the configuration software, the customization goes incredibly far. You assign different commands to different actuation points of a single key press. If you play tactical shooters, you map a half-press to walk and a full press to crouch.
It takes a lot of trial and error to get the physical muscle memory right. I highly recommend dropping one of the included SAPP rings into your spacebar switch to shorten the travel distance for jumping; it saves you from mistiming your inputs during frantic firefights.
The Logitech G512 X Proves Analog Hybrids Belong on Your Desk
Nobody needs to spend $250 on a keyboard just to browse the internet. But if you play competitive shooters or massive RPGs where movement matters, this board earns its price tag.
The dual-action inputs change how you interact with your favourite games. It takes a few nights of tweaking to get everything right. Once you do, going back to a standard mechanical board is incredibly difficult.
