Blizzard Entertainment just dropped a brand new music video for “Reward the Scars,” an original track by Korn built specifically for the Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion.
If you were wondering what it sounds like when one of the heaviest bands of the last three decades tackles the darkest game on the market, the answer is exactly what you would expect. It's an absolute meat grinder.
The song marks Korn's first new music in over four years, breaking a dry spell that had fans wondering when they would return to the studio. They debuted the track live at the Sick New World festival, giving the crowd an early taste of the riffs.
The official music video goes a step further and brings the full Diablo aesthetic into the mix. We get a visual look defined by dread, power, and resistance. The track explores what happens after the fight is over. It digs into survival, pain, and what that turns you into when the dust settles.
Confronting What Lives Beneath the Surface
Turning our attention to the collaboration itself, it makes total sense from a community perspective. I've always thrown on some heavy tracks when jumping into a Helltide or pushing Nightmare Dungeons, and having Korn actually write a song for the game is a great fit.
Jonathan Davis mentioned he has played Diablo for years, so stepping into that world creatively made total sense. He connects to the idea of confronting what lives beneath the surface, which is something the band has explored from the beginning. He noted that the track started in their own writing process and quickly became a natural match for the game.
Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred Embraces Its Heavy Metal Roots
When you actually get your hands on the Lord of Hatred expansion, you realize it tells a heavy story about consequence and choice. Kevin Bjelajac from Blizzard pointed out that both the band and the game live in that space of confronting darkness head-on. The expansion deals with what it means to embrace or resist the pull of evil, and “Reward the Scars” captures that vibe perfectly. It's a genuine match for the tone of the current expansion.
The video itself clocks in at just under four minutes and is packed with the kind of intense, blood-soaked imagery you expect from Sanctuary. If you want a quick piece of advice for your next playthrough, I highly recommend putting this track on repeat before you jump into the new Spiritborn class. It sets the exact right mood for tearing through mobs. It's great to see the series embracing its heavy metal roots again, and hopefully, we get more crossovers like this in the future.

Korn has always been a great band, glad that they are back with some new music. It’s interesting that the song is linked up with Diablo.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you! It's great to see them breaking that four-year dry spell. The Diablo connection is definitely a unique combo, but once you watch the video and hear the track, it makes total sense. Jonathan Davis actually said he's been playing the game for years, so the match is pretty genuine.
