During PlayStation’s latest State of Play, Japanese developer Game Freak, working with publisher Fictions, confirmed that its upcoming action RPG Beast of Reincarnation will launch on August 4, 2026.

The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with availability day one on Xbox Game Pass for console and Windows. Digital versions will be offered across all platforms, alongside physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Wishlist options are now live on PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam.

Alongside the release date announcement, a new gameplay trailer debuted during the presentation, offering a deeper look at the game’s setting, combat, and central characters.

This project also marks a clear change in direction for Game Freak, a studio best known for its long-running work on Pokémon. Beast of Reincarnation moves into darker territory and focuses on action RPG structure in a way that sits outside the studio’s usual output.

A Journey Through a Blighted Version of Japan

Beast of Reincarnation is set in the year 4026 AD, long after a parasitic decay known as the Blight has overtaken Japan. The infection has twisted the land and its creatures into dangerous forms called Malefacts, leaving scattered survivors struggling to endure what remains.

You follow Emma, an outcast marked as blightborn, as she travels alongside Koo, a Malefact dog that has retained its soul. Their journey follows a hunt for the powerful Nushi and leads toward a confrontation with the Beast of Reincarnation itself, the source of the Blight consuming the world.

The new trailer uses environmental storytelling to show landscapes that shift between ruin and sudden growth, with forests pushing through collapsed structures and open wasteland as Emma and Koo move deeper into dangerous territory.

Combat Built Around Emma and Koo’s Partnership

Combat in Beast of Reincarnation is built around the bond between its two leads. Emma handles real-time action during encounters, while Koo supports her through turn-based actions that influence how fights unfold. As enemies fall, both characters unlock new abilities that expand their available techniques and combat options.

The footage highlights encounters inside corrupted forests and hostile zones shaped by the Blight, giving a clearer sense of how exploration and combat connect as Emma and Koo move through the world together.
