Nintendo has shared new information outlining how image and video sharing will work in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, following the game’s recent Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Direct. The update confirms that certain sharing features will be restricted when the game launches later this year.

The clarification was posted alongside Nintendo’s broader content sharing guidelines and is tied specifically to the unique nature of Tomodachi Life, where player-created characters and situations can sometimes lead to moments that may be misunderstood when shared out of context.

According to Nintendo, the goal of these limits is to ensure the game remains welcoming and comfortable for everyone, while still allowing players to share their experiences in appropriate ways.

Image Sharing Limits in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

In its statement, Nintendo explained that the freedom to create and customize Miis is a core part of Tomodachi Life, but that same freedom can sometimes result in scenes that don’t reflect the intended tone of the game when viewed without context.

Because of this, Nintendo has decided to place restrictions on certain image-sharing features in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The company says these limits are meant to help keep the game enjoyable for all players and prevent situations where shared content could be misinterpreted.

Nintendo also noted that the decision aligns with its broader approach to creating experiences that are accessible and comfortable for a wide audience.

Sharing and Monetization Guidelines

Nintendo confirmed that players can still share gameplay clips and screenshots, as long as they follow the company’s existing Game Content Guidelines.

Under those guidelines:

  • Shared content must include creative input or commentary
  • Gameplay must come from officially released versions of the game
  • System capture tools may be used to record footage or images
  • Content cannot be sold or used for commercial purposes
  • Uploads must follow platform-specific rules

Nintendo also reiterated that monetization is only permitted through approved platforms, such as YouTube, Twitch, and others listed in its guidelines. Uploading unedited footage or reusing official promotional material without added context is not allowed.

Sharing Rules Ahead Living the Dream's Launch

For most players, these changes won’t really affect how you play day to day. You’ll still be able to capture moments, share screenshots, and post videos, as long as everything follows Nintendo’s guidelines. The idea isn’t to rein things in, but to make sure Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream stays a place where moments can be shared without being taken out of context or misunderstood.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches on April 16 for Nintendo Switch and will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2. If you plan on sharing clips or screenshots, it’s worth taking a quick look at Nintendo’s Game Content Guidelines for Online Video and Image Sharing Platforms ahead of time.
