The Sims has revealed its next major expansion, The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy, launching February 12 across PC, Xbox and PlayStation. The new pack introduces a royal system built around dynasties, succession, scandals, and power struggles, all set within a brand-new coastal world called Ondarion.

The reveal arrived alongside a teaser trailer, positioning Royalty & Legacy as a pack focused on long-term storytelling rather than one-off features. This is about families, reputations, and how choices ripple across generations.

A New World Built Around Dynasties

Ondarion is a new world made up of three distinct regions, each shaped by its own ruling Dynasty. These neighbourhoods are meant to feel different in tone and purpose, ranging from artistic communal spaces to noble estates and romantic city corners built for intrigue.

The world also introduces a new Backroom Lot type. During the day, these lots behave like normal community spaces such as libraries or museums. At night, they shift into nightlife venues, changing how Sims interact with the space depending on the time of day.

Across Ondarion, Sims can host Grand Balls, live in palace-style estates, and compete for an unclaimed royal throne that only one Sim can hold at a time.

Power, Prestige, and the Noble Career

At the centre of the expansion is the new Noble Career, which tracks your Sim’s rise through royal ranks, from newcomer to Monarch. Advancement is driven by Royal Duties, alliances, speeches, donations, and political choices rather than a fixed work schedule.

A new resource called Favor plays a major role, earned through actions that appeal either to Nobles or Commoners. Favor can help secure power, but it also creates rivals. The higher your Sim climbs, the more likely they are to face challengers trying to damage their reputation or force them out.

Swordsmanship is introduced as a full skill, with duels tied into rivalries and public events. Tournaments can be held throughout the world, turning combat into a social and political tool.

Dynasties and Long-Term Family Play

Royalty & Legacy leans heavily into generational storytelling through the new Dynasty System. Sims can found dynasties, assign heirs, cast out family members, or overthrow the current head of the house.

New interactions like Designate Heir, Designate Outcast, Usurp Family Headship, and Expel a Sim from a Dynasty make family drama feel playable rather than purely decorative. Decisions carry forward, shaping how future generations are treated and remembered.

This system is also designed to work across packs, letting you fold royalty into existing saves instead of starting over.

Scandals Add Consequences to Choices

The new Scandals System introduces social fallout tied to rumours, betrayals, and public missteps. Scandals can begin small or escalate into major events, affecting relationships, careers, and Dynasty Prestige.

How your Sim responds is up to you. They can deny accusations, apologize publicly, profit from controversy, or use information to pressure rivals. Scandals can also be used strategically, adding another layer to political and social gameplay.

A Community-Driven World

The Sims team worked with members of the Pan African Gaming Group and Simmers with lived experience across West African cultures and the Black diaspora. That collaboration helped shape Ondarion’s visual identity, world lore, and Create a Sim and Build/Buy content.

Community creators were also involved in building lots and creating recipes for the world, continuing The Sims’ recent approach of bringing creators into the development process.

Grand Bundle and Launch Details

From January 15 through March 15, every purchase of The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy includes a free upgrade to the Grand Bundle. This bundle adds Regal Treasures Digital Content and two new kits: Tea Time Solarium and Silver Screen Style.

The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack launches February 12 on PC via the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam, as well as PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Royalty & Legacy looks designed for players who like letting saves breathe over time. The focus on dynasties, succession, and scandals means choices don’t just affect the current Sim, but ripple forward into future generations.

Instead of pushing short-term goals, the expansion adds systems that sit quietly in the background and shape how stories unfold. If those systems work together as intended, Royalty & Legacy should give players more room to let drama develop on its own, rather than relying on scripted moments or one-off mechanics.
