| Steam has launched a new Second Edition of Community Awards, refreshing how users recognize community contributions. |
By Jon Scarr
Valve has rolled out a major update to Steam Community Awards, introducing a brand-new Second Edition set that replaces the original awards lineup and changes how the system works going forward.
The update adds 12 newly illustrated and animated Community Awards while retiring the First Edition awards that have been available since the program launched.
A New Set of 12 Community Awards
The Second Edition introduces a refreshed collection of 12 awards designed to make it easier to recognize different types of community contributions. These awards can be given to user reviews, forum posts, guides, screenshots, artwork, Workshop mods, and Steam profile pages.
Valve says the new set is intentionally smaller and more distinct, making it quicker to choose an award while keeping the overall tone positive across the platform.

Community Awards No Longer Transfer Steam Points
One of the biggest changes affects how Steam Points work. Previously, Community Awards transferred a small number of Steam Points to the recipient, acting as a tip system for popular content.
With the Second Edition, Community Awards no longer transfer Steam Points. Valve says the change is meant to shift the focus away from attention-grabbing posts and toward a broader range of thoughtful and creative contributions.
Any pending point transfers from First Edition awards will still complete as expected, but new awards granted under the Second Edition will only serve as a signal of appreciation rather than a points reward.
All Awards Now Cost the Same
Steam has also standardized pricing across the entire Community Awards system. Every Second Edition Community Award now costs 500 Steam Points, removing the need to weigh different price tiers when choosing an award.
Steam Points are earned through purchases on the platform and can still be spent in the Steam Points Shop on profile items, stickers, emoticons, and other cosmetic features.

Profile Showcase Tracks Awards Given and Received
The update also expands how awards appear on user profiles. The Community Awards Showcase now tracks the total number of awards a user has given and received, combining both First Edition and Second Edition awards into a single count.
Users can add the showcase by visiting Steam’s Edit Profile page, allowing them to highlight their activity within the community.

First Edition Awards Are Now Retired
While First Edition Community Awards can no longer be granted, any badges earned through the earlier system will remain visible on profiles. However, Second Edition awards will not contribute to those legacy badges.
Valve notes that users who want a full breakdown of awards given and received can still access that information through their Awards Summary page.
